On Tuesday, Franconia Notch State Park employees Jim Gagne, Chris "Goose" Grossjean and Ed Kinske Jr. nailed stairs into place just a few feet above the deafening sound of the gorge brook.

There is about 800 feet of boardwalk in the 100-foot deep crevice. Each fall, about 500 feet of it is removed so that ice and spring runoff do not damage it.
It becomes a true sign of the summer season in the Notch once the boardwalk is back in place.

The park is now open and people can walk up to a certain point on the boardwalk now.

This year was a particularly interesting winter because it allowed a huge ice arch to form from one side of the wall to the other, making for a tunnel-like look over the brook.
