I hadn't considered that both captains could be cited—but they could.

And yes, there's infractions going on.

OH, I only see one boat in the picture. My Mac again, I guess. When I drag it , I can see two and they look close together but can't seem to keep the picture to really look.

If you want to be a stickler you could say that they are traveling above no wake speed within 150 feet. However, with all the yahoo's out there do you really want to get this nit picky. Both captains appear to be traveling together. Both are going a bit over idle speed. Both appear to know of each others proximity. I personally would not be that close even at idle if I could avoid it but is it worth pulling them over? I personally wouldn't think so.

Perhaps a simple signal from a nearby MP if he happened to be there would be fine.

Just my 2 cents.

I would agree with sumr. It is a little hard to tell if they are 150' from shore, but they are making a wake and also traveling too close together. I have seen jet skiis get stopped for being too close together. 150' from other boats too, even if they are friends.

I'd tag them both for not being at headway speed when in the 150' proximity required by New Hampshire's "Unsafe Passage" Law.

There are too many out-of-staters operating in Ignorance.

Let them pay for their ignorance of NH's laws.

...And this one?

You're the NHMP—how many tickets can you write? P8120036_zpsf1689e03

Two years ago, I watched as a gal stood on top of a boathouse, and repeatedly threw Frisbies for her Jet-Skier friends, who rocketed away from the shoreline to catch it.

Rolling Eyes

Tuesday, a powerboat cruised slowly by, and was tossed a Frisbie—the helmsman leaped out of the moving boat to catch it! A passenger of unknown skills eventually moved over to steer.

Shocked

That is unbelievably crazy. I don't know how you could stand such debotchary! That would certainly ruin my entire week and my love for the lake. Just imagine two boats traveling perhaps 4 mph faster than headway speed down an empty harbor over 2 miles wide. It is incomprehensible. They should be arrested and have a loss of boaters license for a minimum of 5 years.. Perhaps the national guard could come assist the MP. These actions must cease!

Have we seen your contributions here before?

A "stickler".

For Laws?

A "simple signal"? Does the NHMP issue "simple signals"?

Those two large boats would actually have more control at a higher speed—but are operating at less than half the distance required by NH law.

After citing them, I would also give them a "simple signal" verbally, saying that the combined wakes of two large boats pose a hazard to smaller boats, including the SUPs that are taking over on quiet waters—such as this pictured in Winter Harbor—above.

If you haven't seen "combined-wakes", I wrote of them at FATP—shooting up eight feet high—before the Speed Limits took effect. My chance to document that phenomenon has all but disappeared on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Then the MS Mt. Washington would have a small wake at top speed.

You can't apply your single criterion universally.

I can't think of any boat that has bigger waves when it goes faster. Can you, NH?

The Mount doesn't have much of a wake at all anymore.

Have you ever not come to a complete stop when taking a right on red? Have you ever driven your car 67mph on 93? Have you used your directional every single time you have made a turn?

Yeah the MP could have cited the operator, maybe even both. But why? Do we employ police to make money by handing out as many tickets as they can or are they there to promote safety? Yes this is really not all that safe and it is against the law in New Hampshire, but in comparison to what I see out on the lake every weekend, this is an insignificant infraction and provides little danger to public safety.

I get what you are saying NH but I would rather have the Marine Patrol looking out for yahoos that are truly causing public safety hazards. Think about it, if the MP stopped these two and cited both. The state would get what??? 300 bucks??? And it would probably take up an hour, maybe an hour and a half of the officer’s time. That time could have been spent deterring behavior that really is a hazard to public safety.

The Mount doesn't have much of a wake at all anymore.

Only planing hulls produce less wake at high speeds.

With some experience, SBONH will learn a few things.

Displacement hulls, like The Mount, make huge wakes; however, the wakes follow at a shallow angle. Only those going too fast—or someone in a small boat—can sense that they are in the Mount's wake.

(Excepting a turn, when the wake's height slows—but increases in height—on "the inside" wake).

Great to have you onboard OL... The other aspect to look at is if the MP stopped and ticketed for the $300 that is a drop in the barrel compared to what could be lost if these are transient boaters that do not return. I by all means do not think that this means laws should not be enforced but lets be realistic as well.

If a MP was in the area and no other major offenses we happening then perhaps stopping them and giving them a friendly warning would be the best practice. From what I am told this is the most common practice for the MP's. The area where the most tickets are written and safety is an issue is the following safety inspection that is conducted at all stops.

However I truly believe the MP are not power hungry officials looking to ruin peoples good times. They understand there is more involved then just a simple black and white breaking of a law. Perhaps NH could learn something from them.

Way to twist the argument once again Jackass.

By the way just because I am a member of an organization does not mean every post I make I am speaking for them or representing their intentions on an issue. As much as you like to twist it into that it is not the case.

You're such a Jackass... (not sure if I mentioned that yet..) Laughing
