Health officials said the bartender worked at the American Legion and the Covered Bridge Restaurant in Contoocook. The Covered Bridge Restaurant has temporarily closed its doors and will reopen once it gets an all-clear from the state.

"Once we hear back and everything is all clear, we will open up, but just for public safety, we will close our doors after meeting with the state today," said Jeremy Frost of the Covered Bridge Restaurant.

Hepatitis A is a contagious but treatable disease that affects the liver.

Sylvia Stokes, of Webster, said she and her husband are regulars at the restaurant. She's wondering how widespread the outbreak could be in the highly traveled area.

"There are travelers off Interstate 89 and vacationers off 89 every weekend, Saturday and Sunday," Stokes said.

Health officials said 600 to 1,000 people may need to be vaccinated. Customers of the Covered Bridge Restaurant or the Contoocook Legion from July 20 through Aug. 3 should get vaccinated.
