Hall of Fame high school football coach Chuck Lenahan will retire after his 43rd season as head coach of the Plymouth Regional Bobcats.

Lenahan hasn't officially announced that 2013 will be his final season at Plymouth Regional. The focus should be on players, especially seniors, he said.

But the 70-year-old submitted paperwork to the school district, finalizing his plan to retire as athletic director and coach.

“This is it. There comes a time when it’s someone else's turn,” Lenahan said. “I’m like one of the seniors now. Hopefully we can finish up together and do a good job.”

Asked if he held a team meeting at practice to announce the decision, he said, “Not really. I’ll probably tell them in the locker room before the first game or something. It doesn’t matter. It’s not about me.”

Lenahan, hired in 1971 by then-principal George Zoulias, didn’t win a game in his first season. The legendary coach has since won 19 state championships, including 13 undefeated seasons, while compiling a record of 345-69-1.
