Shouldn't the focus be on the problem individuals? This is like the left's war on guns. It is not the gun nor is it the game, it is the individual. Why ban a game that millions of kids love to play? Why ban it for the majority because of a narrow few?

Nashua, NH

School officials have banned children at Charlotte Avenue Elementary School from playing tag at recess. The school principal said the decision was made because too many children were getting hurt.

"I was shocked," said parent Laura Patterson. "Kids should be allowed to be kids."

Principal Patricia Beaulieu was not available for comment Thursday but explained the reasons on the school's website.

"Playgrounds offer a chance for children to be active," she wrote. "However, playgrounds also have risks, and numerous injuries have resulted recently on our playground, prompting us to review school playground rules with all students.

"As you know, the traditional recess game tag involves one or more players chasing other players in an attempt to "tag" or touch them. However, the force with which students "tag" varies greatly."

Beaulieu said the policy is to prevent children from being injured on the playground. But parents News 9 talked to said it goes too far.

"One incident leads to, 'Lets ban everything,'" said parent Jacquelin Thompson. "Our kids should be wrapped in bubble wrap and sent to school. It seems kind of silly."
