What a coincidence. WHL update

This didn't happen on Winnipesaukee nor did I want to get into a controversial discussion so I thought I would update you here WHL considering boating is also considered a recreational activity.

So Saturday I head off the dock with four passengers and we are going to go out the river and up to Cabbage Key for lunch. It is about 9:45 approaching 90 degrees 100% sunshine. We go thru two no wake manatee zones including the miserable mile. This is so named because it is one mile at headway speed and with the heat people are miserable.

Once out we proceed north and are running along at 45- 55 mph enjoying the warm breeze and turquoise waters. Most of us were in a rush to get to the marina so we were very much looking forward to an early lunch... Suddenly "Pop! Pop!" Dead in the water. No engine, no gauges, no stereo...... Everything dead. Well we start troubleshooting and after 15 minutes realize it won't be anything easy so we radio Boat US. In the meantime a very nice sheriff arrives on scene and says he will stay with us until the tow boat arrives. He was a really nice guy and we joked around with him a bunch. Lucky for me I have on board a friend of mine who happens to be the master mechanic at my marina and the crew chief for the P1 Raceboat "Instigator". He has over 27 years of racing experience and more in building and fixing boats. After about an hour he has the boat starter trying to kick on, fuel pump activating etc. and basically figured it out. A voltage relay burned out which then cascaded up to the control panel frying out my ignition and kill switch along with another voltage relay in the helm. Easy fix he said but without parts, nothing could be done.

We then arrive back at the marina at 2:30 and needless to say we are famished. We jump on my buddies 37 foot boat with twins and head directly to the closest restaurant on the water. (4 miles away) at about 3.5 miles one engine suddenly revs up on RPM's and the boat slows right down. We check everything in the engine, throttle cables etc.. But it wouldn't go into gear. So we turn around and limp home on one engine at headway speed not to stress the second drive. We arrive back at 5 pm.

So over 7 hours in over 90 degree heat, 100% sunshine, no food we were done!!! At the dock we put the boat back on the lift and sure enough we saw why it wouldn't go into gear: The prop and prop shaft were gone! He through a gear in his lower drive and bye bye.

Well at 5:30 we had our early lunch and I am now applying aloe to my face and arms for the last 2 days.. LOL.

Good news is my boat is almost fixed and will try again on Saturday..

What a day... But at least I got to try out my Boat US membership. I saw the tow would have been $870!!!  but with my membership = ZERO! Sumrluvr = 1 Boat US = 0. I sure hope it remains that way for years to come.. LOL

It seems like you have had a lot of problems with that boat.

Really sorry to hear that you had such a bad day. Hope things get better for you.

Thank you. That is nice of you to say.

I definitely have had my share of issues. But that is what happens with a used boat. Basically it wasn't taken care of the way it should have been. But since I have purchased it the engine has been redone, the entire gas tank, floor and cockpit and now the electrical system.

Every time something else happens I say "well what else could go wrong"... Heads up.................. DON'T EVER say that! LOL  

But being a boat owner and even more so a performance boat owner these things will and do happen. As long as you are prepared for it you learn to enjoy it (to a point). Depending on the cost.

Lucky for me I have good friends who are experts at repairing issues so when something does go it is fixed "better" than new.

I just got the call that it is all set. He even rigged it so that he could start the motor (before the new parts arrive tomorrow) just to flush the system. He definitely is taking care of me.

So round #2 this Saturday.. Hopefully my sunburned face is back to normal. Been reapplying aloe ever hour...

Oh no, sumr! I am so sorry to hear that-AGAIN!! You really have had bad luck!! Remind me never to take you for a ride in one of my boats-I think you are bad luck!!!! (Just kidding.) It sounded like such a fun trip, sorry it ended like that. Keep that sunblock on. I never did and am paying for it now.

Thank you WHL. I am very careful with my sunblock especially being in the sunshine state and my family history. Hence why you normally will see me with some type of headwrap on when driving my boat.

The ironic part is this time it was not me. A new friend I had met down here had never been on a performance boat so I invited him along. Really nice guy. Anyway before we leave the dock he precedes to tell me that on the last 3 boats he has been on 2 had mechanical issues. So "he does not have good luck with boats".

So when mine had the electrical issue he turns jokingly and says.... I told you so.

But the funnier part was the very next boat he stepped on it spun the prop off! We both look right at him and without saying anything he says: "I know, I know... It's my fault".

What was even more ironic is he jumps in his car to head home the next morning and his car breaks down!!! Talking about a bad luck individual.


All I could say was: We are NEVER taking a flight together!  

  That's for sure. Tell me if he is ever flying and I will avoid that plane too!

All fixed.. Going to try again on Saturday. My nose is still recovering from the sunburn. May need to buy some of that stuff the lifeguards use.

I actually have that along with Neutrogina 85 with heloplex. With my skin history and family background I am very careful. This is probably my 4th time ever burning my nose so badly that it peeled. No blistering which is a plus!

Hoping to FINALLY make it to cabbage key. We were almost insight last night and I really want to see what the big fuss is about. Apparently the food is great for a restaurant on an island with no access other than by boat.

Will let you know of the outcome.

Glad to see you two guys getting along. Maybe the two of you can have lunch together this winter.

Uggh. Change of plans again. I found out my kill switch (which melted) has not arrived. I was told I can just keep the wires connected however I am not comfortable driving her without a lanyard so looks like Cabbage Key will have to wait again! Instead going to head over to the Marina and spend the morning washing, waxing and organizing the contents.

Surprising I actually enjoy doing it.

At least I won't have to worry much about sunscreen for I will be inside.

Well after 3 hours in 95 degree heat she is getting back to her old self. Just waiting on the kill switch to arrive and we are good to go.

Unfortunately it will have to wait for next weekend taking a trip to Cocoa Beach FL to celebrate my son's 6th bday. Taking him over to see the new Atlantis exhibit at NASA... Should be a blast (no pun intended  )

No problems.. Just shipping taking longer than normal. The nice part is I don't have to worry about boating season being "over". Actually here it will just get started around the beginning of October. So just working out the kinks.. :-)

We will definitely run through Ron Jon. I have been there before when we cruised of out Cape Canavral FL. Great place. HUGE!

Yep, Ron Jon's is always a fun place to go.

I have no idea on the picture size. NH as posted plenty of pics, maybe he can help. I don't think I have ever tried posting one here.
