Thousands of fans of anime -- Japanese animation -- are gathering at the Raddison Hotel this weekend for a convention.

It's called Another Anime Convention, and it brings together fans of Japanese animation and video games. Pokemon is popular among many of those attending.

"There's different genres, like horror, sci-fi, magi girls," said convention-goer Kylie McWilliams. "My favorite's the magi girl one."

This is the eighth year for the convention in Manchester. Organizers said about 3,000 people have registered, but more are expected to show up.

Many at the convention were dressed up as characters from TV shows, video games or comic books.
