Happy Birthday Obamacare!

Post  News Buzzard on Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:09 am

President Obama's signature legislation was signed 4 years ago today! Here are some of the endless myths about Obamacare that are in the Right Wing Book Of Mythology:

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/03/23/the-top-five-obamacare-myths-debunked/198569

And after futile attempts to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times, the Republicans still don't have an alternative:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/obamacare-four-years-republican-alternative

As of today it is estimated that 5.5 million people will have signed up for Obamacare:

http://acasignups.net/

And former Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, currently on a carpetbagging tour of New Hampshire, found out from a Republican that Obamacare is not all that bad:

How much more money will the Koch brothers spend in a futile attempt to do away with Obamacare???   affraid

The Koch brothers also contribute to Democrats.

Let's not demonize through Alinsky tactics.

"Rules for Radicals".

The KochPAC gave almost $200,000 to Democratic candidates and committees, including just most recently in 2010. This included a $30,000 donation to the DSCC.

But isn’t it funny how top Democrats like Harry Reid harp on how the Kochs are ruining politics and complain about their partisan allegiances? Since 2000 KochPAC has given more than $1.4 million to Democratic candidates, leadership PACs and committees. Who’s partisan now?

Now, this is not to say that the Kochs haven’t been a huge part of funding Republican ideas, but it must be awfully frustrating for them to have people constantly criticizing them. The whole point of funding political interests is to support those ideas and people that you like. Clearly, the Democrats that were receiving help from the KochPAC had something of interest to the brothers.

So the Koch brothers gave $1.4 million to Democrats and $400 million to Republicans. That's a level playing field!!!  Kind of like Frost Heaves!! (residents of Florida don't know about that)  bounce

I can't speak for residents of Florida regarding "frost heaves", but my next door neighbor comes from New Hampshire's seacoast. (!)

Frost heaves often remain unrepaired all summer on my Wolfeboro street—I don't mind, as it discourages motorcycles and other undesirables.

pirat

Perhaps the Socialist's "George Soros" has plans to improve the USA but I'm not looking for any "level playing field" from Soros—a Nazi-collaborator during WWII.

Aligning with George Soros may win you some time:

"George Soros is very, very rich, and he’s also a soulless sociopath, an inhumane left-wing extremist who collaborated with the Nazis in his youth. But that’s just my take on the man. Based exclusively on his own words.

Be prepared to be hit with revulsion. Soros betrayed other Jews and helped steal their property and send them to their tragic deaths to spare himself.

And he doesn’t feel any guilt about it. None.

This is the face of pure evil… and with whom the Democrat party has aligned itself."

How does Soros feel about what he did as a teenager? Has it kept him up at night?

Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes asked him that. Was it difficult? “Not at all,” Soros answered.

“No feeling of guilt?” asked Kroft. “No,” said Soros. “There was no sense that I shouldn’t be there. If I wasn’t doing it, somebody else would be taking it away anyhow. Whether I was there or not. So I had no sense of guilt.”

A Nazi would steal the Jews’ property anyways. So why not him?

That moral hollowness has shaped Soros’ life. He’s a rabid critic of capitalism, but in 1992 when he saw a chance, he speculated against the British pound, causing it to crash, devastating retirement savings for millions of Britons. Soros pocketed $1.1 billion for himself. If he didn’t do it, someone else would, right?

In 2002, Soros was convicted of insider trading in France, and fined millions of dollars. He admitted buying the shares, but denied it was a crime.

Last year, when he made $3.3 billion off the banking collapse, he called the world’s financial crisis “the culmination of my life’s work.”

• “Koch Industries, Inc. takes a leadership role in the promotion of biodiversity, wildlife habitat enhancement, land restoration and conservation education,” according to Wildlife Habitat Council president Robert Johnson. “Koch and its subsidiaries maintain Council-certified programs at 10 facilities throughout the United States,” including Montana’s 300,000-acre Matador Cattle Company Beaverhead Ranch.

• Flint Hills Resources (a Koch company) helps Ducks Unlimited maintain 36,000 acres of waterfowl habitat on 116 Minnesota lakes. Thus, Ducks Unlimited gave the company its Emerald Teal Award.

Love or loathe Charles and David Koch’s politics, only a liar could deny the tremendous social good that their money secures. Rather than quietly collect mansions and yachts, they spend billions to school students, cure diseases, cultivate artists, and clean the Earth.

The Koch brothers are trying to buy our Democracy and turn it into a Plutocracy! That should alarm all of us, regardless of affiliation. Republicans and Democrats throughout the country survive by the grace of the social programs the Koch brothers are trying to destroy! The only problem is that poorer Republicans don't seem to be getting it yet, because the Koch brothers have them bamboozled into thinking that everything which ails us is Obama's fault. It's a very successful strategy so far!!

This is just another effort to keep Americans’ attention deflected from Obamacare and the rest of Obama’s failures.

Democrats have totally embraced Alinsky’s Rule Number 12:

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.”

Democrats will stop at nothing to personally destroy the Koch brothers and anyone else who poses a genuine threat to their political agenda. If one listens to the misrepresentaions of the left one might be believe that the Koch brothers are among the heaviest hitters in American politics. This, of course, is false. As the website OpenSecrets.org reveals, among the top all-time donors from the years 1989-2014,

the Koch brothers come in at…number 59.

The same website further reveals that 6 of the top 10 political donors are unions, who overwhelmingly favor Democrats with their campaign contributions by margins of 91 percent or greater, compared to what they give Republicans.

That's hysterical! The Conservatives would have us believe that Citizens United never happened and the "non-profit" organization, Americans For Prosperity, doesn't exist. In the meantime, the Koch brothers are spending millions to unseat vulnerable Democrats around the country, using Obamacare as their foil!

It's not like the Koch brothers have any special interest in foiling the drive toward renewable energies in an effort to fight climate change:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/03/20/the-biggest-land-owner-in-canadas-oil-sands-isnt-exxon-mobil-or-conoco-phillips-its-the-koch-brothers/

The Koch brothers are relying heavily on the theory that Americans were born yesterday and don't know any better than to vote Republican!

As of March 24th it is estimated that 5.6 million people have signed up for Obamacare, and the grand total of all persons who have secured health insurance through Obamacare is between 12.5 million and 15 million people. It is estimated that by the end of the month 6.2 million people will have secured health insurance through the exchanges. And the Republicans are still running around the country saying that Obamacare is a bad thing! Ask the 15 million people who now have health insurance if it's a bad thing!!

You are hysterical.

How many of the “newly insured” were not covered pre-Obamacare?
How many of the “newly insured” have paid for it?
Funny how the Feds don’t have that information.

Here in New Hampshire we have some 1.3 million people. Obamacare has allegedly insured some 17 thousand people. A large portion of those enrollees are expanded Medicaid and reinsured folks that were thrown off their old insurance by Obamacare.

How much more are we going to have to pay for the subsidize these people? Where is the state going to get the money for expanded Medicaid when the Feds lower the subsidies in a few years?

I am sure at that point you will be calling for a sales and income tax.

It seems to me that you are willing to throw poor people to the curb, but Medicaid expansion is fully 100% covered for the first 3 years and 90% covered after that. I'm sure we're paying plenty now for emergency room visits, which is something you never want to discuss. It's only about the ideological mission of destroying Obamacare and nothing else for you, despite the fact that millions of people are getting coverage. I'll let the insurance companies worry about who is or isn't paying them, as they've always had a quick draw when it comes to cancelling people's insurance. The worst thing about Obamacare is that it's not single payer!

As far as an income or sales tax goes, you seem very comfortable with the fact that our bridges and roads are falling apart and there is no money for anything else. I'm retired so I don't need to get around as much as you do, and my town provides great services to our citizens, despite the tightwads in the statehouse!  Wink

It seems you want everyone to be poor. Poor people are easier for Democrats to manipulate.

The money that the federal government is using to pay for the expansion has to come from somewhere. That "somewhere" is the tax payers - including the middle class.

States are required to balance their budgets. So when they take on a more Medicaid spending - which could easily be hundreds of millions of dollars a year, they have to decide if that means they are going to raise taxes or cut other spending.

We cannot afford is to keep pretending that everything is free.

Are you willing to pay higher taxes to pay for this?
Are your neighbors?

Or how about we cut funds to schools and roads - the other two large categories of spending at the state level?

You got your gas tax and now you seem open to more taxes like sales and income tax. That is one of the problems with Democrats and establishment Republicans; they can never get enough revenue.

New Hampshire has done just fine with small government. We built our roads schools and bridges without the need to “generate” new revenue from our residents. Now we have a influx of people who have destroyed their own state and want to change what makes New Hampshire special.

The state balances it's budget on our backs and they don't spend anywhere near enough on their roads and bridges. We'll be paying a lot more for that at a future date. My neighbors have historically been willing to spend more money in taxes, as they overwhelmingly approve all of our repair and maintenance warrants every year. People in Wolfeboro are very intelligent, unlike most of the people around here. They recognize the need to maintain our assets!

Right, the state doesn't spend anywhere near enough on their roads and bridges. If they only SPENT THE MONEY THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR THAT PURPOSE (GAS TAXES ETC.) instead of BLOWING it on OTHER THINGS, our roads would be perfect.

That's your typical worn out line, but you can't tell me with a straight face that prices are the same today as they were in 1991, when the state last raised the gasoline tax. Are you charging the same prices as you were in 1991 for your merchandise? Your argument about the money going elsewhere is also very thin because the money to operate the state has to come from somewhere. If they stop taking money for the State Police out of the gas tax then it will have to come out of the general budget, which is another form of a tax. Do you think the State Police should work for nothing? To you it's all about money and nothing else, the whole damn state could fall apart as far as you're concerned, but you would be the first one on the phone bitching about the potholes!  Rolling Eyes
