The plane crashed into the water near Rattlesnake Island. The seaplane was fully submerged in the lake after the crash.
The pilot, a 59-year-old Massachusetts man, was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Marine Patrol said its officers found the man clinging to the plane. He was conscious and able to tell them what happened.
The pilot told rescuers that he was doing touch-and-go landings when he had a "pontoon failure," causing the plane to flip.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane is a Cessna 206 aircraft. The FAA is investigating the incident.
The plane is submerged in about 105 feet of water. The Department of Environmental Services has placed booms on the water at the scene of the crash.

I don't believe I've seen this plane before. (Consistent with a new pilot trying to build up "hours").
The lake's water is clearer at "Ice Out"!
(That'll change...).

Not quite:
. News Hawk jumping to conclusions again. So let's do away with power boats, motorcycles and now new pilots.State Police said Gayshan has 13 years of piloting experience, including two years with seaplanes

How so?
"Hours" are required for a floatplane ticket—there is no written exam required.

How so?
YOU didn't recognize the plane so the pilot must be new...even though reports were published on line prior to your insightful comment. Those reports clearly state that he has been a pilot for 13 years and had his floatplane ticket for two years.
I understand that you have a mental file of all aircraft that fly the skies of New Hampshire but sometimes it might be blurred from your vantage point in the Keys.

During these last several years, I have been photographing every aircraft I see over (and on) Lake Winnipesaukee. My computer file has 47+ photographs, not including some file photos of aircraft "known" to fly in the area. (Mostly biplanes and military aircraft). My Dad shows interest in the local flying scene over Winnipesaukee, so I take these photographs for my Dad.
While this photo (below) could not be the aircraft that's being discussed—based on the number of windows in the cabin—so the crashed plane is eliminated as an aircraft I've seen over Winnipesaukee.

I'll run that by my Dad.

If you still have your Dad at your age, good for you.
The plane has been raised from its watery grave.
