A fatal wait: Veterans languish and die on a VA hospital's secret list

Post  Anti Federalist on Thu Apr 24, 2014 10:53 pm

This is the face of socialized medicine, coming soon for all of us.

A fatal wait: Veterans languish and die on a VA hospital's secret list

http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/23/health/veterans-dying-health-care-delays/

(CNN) -- At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list.

The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources.

For six months, CNN has been reporting on extended delays in health care appointments suffered by veterans across the country and who died while waiting for appointments and care. But the new revelations about the Phoenix VA are perhaps the most disturbing and striking to come to light thus far.

Internal e-mails obtained by CNN show that top management at the VA hospital in Arizona knew about the practice and even defended it.

Dr. Sam Foote just retired after spending 24 years with the VA system in Phoenix. The veteran doctor told CNN in an exclusive interview that the Phoenix VA works off two lists for patient appointments:

There's an "official" list that's shared with officials in Washington and shows the VA has been providing timely appointments, which Foote calls a sham list. And then there's the real list that's hidden from outsiders, where wait times can last more than a year.

The veteran doctor told CNN in an exclusive interview that the Phoenix VA works off two lists for patient appointments...

Why are we told this, when millions are signing up for Obamacare?

Government healthcare agencies are already set up with a list determined to be "Death Panels".

In January, the VA turned me down on my only request for healthcare.

"I'm not poor enough!"

No

That problem could easily be resolved with more funding! How much money are you willing to fork up to care for those brave soldiers who risked their lives for us?

How about those under VA "care" who are "not poor enough"?

That's the answer to all problems according to the libs. Throw more money at it. NO matter how much we throw they want us to throw more. And it still isn't enough, never will be enough. Just like now in NH we are going to pay 4.2 cents more in gas taxes and it does NOT have to all go to roads and bridges, just as in the past. A percentage of it can go somewhere else.

You didn't seem to have a problem when we were throwing trillions at two unnecessary wars, but now you don't want to take care of veterans. You would rather take the necessary money away from old and poor people. That isn't going to happen!

We suffered a Trillion dollar attack—even the Left says that Afghanistan is a "good war".

Over the last eight years, most Democratic politicians have made a distinction between The Good War (Afghanistan) and The Bad War (Iraq).
www.creators.com.

Those wars were fought by volunteers, who see the military as a necessary job of American Government. (Even stipulated as such, early-on).

I was one of those volunteers—volunteering myself to go into harm's way—so I speak for many others. It's up to the Commander-in-Chief to assign which wars are "necessary". Obama thought Libya and Syria are "necessary".

News Buzzard wrote:...but now you don't want to take care of veterans.
I'd like Obama to take excellent care  of our Veterans.

That's not happening!

No

Funding???

Wha...erm...huh?

Good Christ man, how much more funding do you want?

Between SS/Medicare/Medicaid/Defense, all of which have a mandate to provide health care for veterans, the budget for 2013 was 2.3 TRILLION dollars.

Maybe it's time to end the War on Us.

The millions and millions of dollars spent on the Police State ejaculation in Boston on Monday would help a lot of sick veterans.

THank you Anti.

NB, you do forget that your President and his totally Democratic Congress could have gotten us out of both of those wars in the first two years in which the Dems had control. But they did not. And Dems as well as Repubs. voted to go to war in the first place, so stop putting all the blame on the Repubs. Both wars should have been long over now. Afghanistan never should have started, we should have learned from watching Russia be there for ten years and get nowhere. As for Iraq, as soon as we got Saddam Hussein we should have gotten out of there. Of course I question if we should even be sticking our nose in other people's business anyway. Let them kill each other if they want to. We are NEVER going to change them.

You make no sense, WHL! The wars were not started by Obama and they were at their peak when he was sworn in. A summary withdrawal would have been devastating for our troops and the region. Our real enemy has always been in Pakistan, not Afghanistan, and Saddam Hussein was doing nothing to harm us. Both wars were a huge mistake.

Anti, I can't believe you're being suckered by the oligarchs. They have $30 trillion parked offshore while we fight among ourselves about our much needed social programs!

So, trying to shoot down our aircraft isn't an act of war?

Liberals have short memories, which gives more credibility to their talking points.

Israel tried to sink the USS Liberty in 1967, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan has been the source of our enemy combatants in Afghanistan, so with "allies" like that what's your point about Saddam Hussein? Lugnut is long gone and you would be hard pressed to disprove what I said!

Saddam Hussein was shooting missiles at our military aircraft, who were employed to enforce the UN's mandate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_no-fly_zones

We don't know that the wars were "a big mistake". We also can't say what would be done by a Commander in Chief like Al Gore or John Kerry. Whatever information about Iraq's WMDs came from the same mouth that Clinton* appointed.
http://www.salon.com/2011/08/30/gore_president_iraq/

With a kitchen appliance now described as a WMD, a Commander in Chief had little choice but to retaliate.

Saddam could have changed America by his attacks on his neighbors—Kuwait and Iran. As it was, he burned dozens of oil platforms as he retreated. Would you have preferred that Saddam Hussein wasn't hanged?

scratch

As it was, Saddam Hussein had enough of a war machine to take his battles to other oil-producing neighbors—even to US allies.

Yes, our real enemy has always been in Pakistan—the location of many madrasahs. Madrasahs are the schools where male children are indoctrinated and required to memorize the Holy Book, the Ko'ran. When they're suitable for jihad, they go where they are sent. Often, their ultimate destination turns out to be their view of Islamic "Heaven", where one's Islamic dreams are satiated with 72 virgins.

BTW: There are over 40 madrasahs in the state of Virginia!

[img]http://media2.intoday.in/indiatoday/images/stories/December/madras_1103.jpg
The cable paints a disturbing picture of radical Islamic groups running rampant in the Pakistani province of Punjab, and a government unwilling or unable to stop the spread of terrorist groups that have been sowing havoc in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and beyond.
http://www.longwarjournal.org/threat-matrix/archives/2011/08/pakistans_madrassa_remain_engi.php

As to your "sources", you have one or more?

Lugnut didn't permit "prose" as a pathway to Truth.

No

I need a source to tell you that Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction? Isn't that why we went in there?  Rolling Eyes

You have to be naive to believe there were no weapons of mass destruction.  They got moved out or hidden before we got there.  I think it is pretty numb or stupid to announce for 6 months that you are going to war.  If we ever need to defend ourselves quickly we are in trouble.  And yes, go ahead and tell me it was Bush's fault it took six months. It was, I agree.

Where were they and where did they go? Are you telling me we didn't have the technology to track them? You're grasping at straws if you thought Saddam was a threat to us.

WMD conjecture in the aftermath of the 2003 invasion of Iraq concerns the failure by the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the U.S.-led Iraq Survey Group (ISG) to locate undeclared stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction both before and after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.[1] The United States effectively terminated the search effort for unconventional weaponry in January 2005, and the Iraq Intelligence Commission concluded that the judgements of the U.S. intelligence community about the continued existence of weapons of mass destruction and an associated military program were wrong.

Other investigative bodies continue to examine material evidence relating to past programs.[2][3] Major controversy was generated when prohibited weapons were not found. Some observers reason Saddam Hussein miscalculated by deceiving Intelligence services into believing he had retained active stockpiles while others remain convinced, contrary to the findings of the ISG, that such weapons existed and continue to exist. Alternative conspiracy theories and conjecture have been put forward to explain their possible whereabouts.
