We were on our way to the concert at school Wed. night and there was a duck in the middle of the road.  She seemed confused. We stopped and tried to get her out-she ran right down the road, she really wanted to stay there.  We finally got her off to the side and hoped we wouldn't see her hit when we came back.  We did, so apparently she moved away and wasn't hurt.  I don't know what she was doing, if she got hit just a bit or was looking for babies or something but she was acting strange.  In any event, we were very happy she was ok.   Very Happy  Very Happy

There are too many Ducks, Geese, and Loons, and they are taking over the Lakes Region. They mess all over the place and we have to clean up after them. Don't go near a Loon and stay away from their nests. Don't cause too much wake or you'll bother them. Someone will get you on video if you even look cross eyed at these nasty birds.
Why don't they go somewhere else. I wouldn't miss them.

It's possible she was flying across the road, and bounced off somebody's windshield.

On the way to Ossipee, I picked up a swallow who was standing in the middle of the road. I carried her to the junkyard, where I went "shopping" for car parts. It was only after I'd conducted business that I wondered what do with bird. That got settled by the bird who, with a big lurch, took off from my grasp, made a big circle, and headed for where-ever home was.

 cheers

Nice story, NH.  I do think something had stunned her as she didn't want to get out of the road.  Meantime cars were going by but at least we slowed them down by stopping.

I agree the geese are a real problem, whiteman, I don't think the ducks and loons are taking over.  The geese population is growing way too fast and they are almost impossible to keep away.

In the past week, at two different New Hampshire locations, Loons have been shot!

Varney Point (Gilford) and Dover.

Two different weapons...probably not connected.

I saw a kind of odd duck who couldn't really fly and was acting as a decoy on South Main near the red cape beside the Schoolhouse Professional Bldg. Then we saw she had about 8 to 10 babies under the porch of the red house. Wicked cute!  Very Happy
