State Cop by Cate Park

So why was the state cop parked in front of Cate Park stopping people from before 11 this morning until 1 this afternoon?  (He might still be there.) He was stopping a lot of people!  Anybody get stopped and can tell us why??  He must have made his month's quota in this one day.

I saw the trooper outside of his car talking to would-be pedestrians: After a few minutes, his car was there, but he was not.

We saw him talking to pedestrians also.  But he did have cars stopped too.  Maybe he was talking to jaywalkers and also to people who didn't stop at the crosswalks.  He was writing tickets, that's for sure!  Or warnings!

He might have been looking at stickers and seat belts. Are seat belts mandatory in NH?

The last time the subject came up at FATP, neither car insurance nor seatbelts were mandatory.

Interesting that airplanes weren't required to have seatbelts installed until 1937.

Thanks. It's possible that the Trooper was geo-caching near the Cate Park item.

I watched the Trooper as I walked down South Main from my house to the Post Office and back.  

I noted that it was the last day of the month and June 1st was on a Sunday so anyone who had an expired inspection sticker or registration was getting bagged.

What upset me is since when do we start treating random tourists or locals like this in downtown retail and historic section of town?  WTF?  

Furthermore, don't the State Troopers need permission to stop drivers in each town.  I know they aren't welcome to stop people in Wakefield.  

 

Is THAT what he was doing?  Still, he couldn't legally stop anyone if it was only the last day of the month,right?  They were still legal.  Unless they were over more than a month.

Why does New Hampshire insist on auto inspections, when they can't cite tourists?
