ISIS had recently threatened to kill U.S. journalist James Foley to avenge airstrikes the United States has conducted in Iraq, a senior U.S. official told ABC News. The White House had been aware of the threat prior to the release of a video Tuesday night that appears to show the beheading of Foley and warns that militants will carry out a similar act against U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff, who went missing in August, the official said.

A prisoner exchange could have cleared out Gitmo. Too late, now.

A grisly photo of the late Foley has appeared on the web:

Never mind. Foley's family shouldn't see it, but 53,009 views have been registered at the site.

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan has ordered flags to be held at half-staff in honor of slain journalist James Wright Foley on the day of his memorial service.

Foley was beheaded and the video was posted on YouTube by ISIS, who claimed responsibility for the photographer's death.

"James Foley exemplified the best of our journalistic ideals, fearlessly going to some of the world's most dangerous places to expose the horrific consequences of war and the beautiful humanity of those innocent civilians affected by it," wrote Gov. Hassan in a statement.

Jim Foley's Mom Says Rescue Was Late and Botched...

Post  News Hawk on Thu Sep 11, 2014 10:40 pm

Now, Diane Foley says she thinks Washington should change its approach to cases like that of her son and Steven Sotloff, another American journalist beheaded by ISIS weeks after James Foley.

"I pray that our government will be willing to learn from the mistakes that were made," she told CNN, "and to acknowledge that there are better ways for American citizens to be treated."

There should be international dialogue about how to handle hostages of terrorist groups, she said.

"The risk is becoming higher and higher," she said, "and I really feel that our country let Jim down."

Another Journalist Beheaded—Gov't Stepped In...

Post  News Hawk on Fri Sep 12, 2014 11:01 pm

The parents of murdered journalist Steven Sotloff were told by a White House counterterrorism official at a meeting last May that they could face criminal prosecution if they paid ransom to try to free their son, a spokesman for the family told Yahoo News Friday night.

Re: Rochester Journalist Beheaded by ISIS...

After the Obama administration bargained for Bowe Bergdahl’s life, the family of ISIS hostage James Foley begged the White House for the same treatment—only to be denied.

The parents of James Foley, the journalist ISIS beheaded in August, learned about the U.S. government’s attempt to rescue him about an hour before the rest of us did.

The grieving parents got word from President Obama himself.

“I told Obama that Jim worked hard to get him elected,” John Foley, James’s father, told The Daily Beast. “He believed till the end his country would come and get them.”

The president, according to John, responded, “Well I should tell you, we did try to save him.” Then Obama stunned John and his wife Diane, informing them of the failed special operations rescue mission from early July.

In the call, Obama explained that this information about the rescue mission was classified. But not for long, it would seem. Foley added, “An hour later he went and told the world.”
—Daily Beast

Obama traded five terrorists for a return of an Army deserter, but nothing came of a rescue for Foley.

Sad .

Obama was not there for him...

Post  News Hawk on Sun Oct 26, 2014 9:45 am

American journalist and freelance photographer James Foley campaigned for Barack Obama. But when he was captured and held by ISIS, Obama was not there for him. The Sunday Times reported in August that President Obama delayed a rescue mission for James Foley and the other prisoners for 30 days. Obama spent that time “fretting over his image”, playing golf and worrying his administration would be “Carterized” if the mission failed.
