Health Minister Rona Ambrose is urging Canadians in three countries in West Africa where the Ebola virus is raging to consider leaving now.

The [Canadian] federal government issued a travel advisory Friday aimed at 216 Canadians who live in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. "Today we are asking Canadians living in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia to consider leaving by commercial means while they are still available," Ambrosa said in Edmonton Friday.

Obola is finally finished with his California fundraisers.

On to Ebola precautions? No, I don't think so...

Rolling Eyes

This video shows a very brave young nurse who quarantined her Ebola-stricken family in a house, and nursed them back to health.

But her father, mother, and sister rallied and were well on their way to recovery when space became available at a Medical Center on August 17. Alfred never recovered, though, and passed away at the hospital the next day.

Everybody who is saying that flights and entry from affected countries cannot be restricted or controlled must not be aware that that is precisely how Senegal and Nigeria prevented an epidemic in their countries.

The overwhelming number of flights coming out of West African nations go to Europe, and I repeat that we have had one death in the USA from Ebola while thousands die each year from the flu!

So, the answer is ignore it until it does become a pandemic?

Sure didn't stop "the left" from crucifying Bush over the Katrina response.

Look, I don't like it either, but when everybody wants this massive government in DC (ya'll keep voting for it over and over) well, then you get what you wanted.

Government in everything, politics in everything.

As to what needs to be done?

Very simple: Quarantine returning US citizens and ban anybody else entry with a passport stamp from the affected countries.

Not very "freedom minded" is it?

I agree, but the consequences to freedom are much more stark, if we end up with even just a 100 cases of Ebola Zaire.

Let a thousand cases pop up and people will freak the f*ck out and demand insane government "crackdowns", which government will be more than happy to oblige.

SWAT teams in biohazard suits will be dragging people off for having the sniffles.

Doesn't sound very anti federalist to me. Everyone wants small government, until of course they want something done!! Wink

You should have included the rest of my quote. Cool

This could be done in a small government way by applying the centuries old maritime custom of "pratique" to flights and passengers.

Failure to control this when very simple and unobtrusive methods could be used, will almost certainly result in a massive police state orgasm when things get even slightly out of hand.

I don't care if it blows over, as long as the threat is over.

Australia suspends visas for people travelling from Ebola-hit countries

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-29783106

Australia temporarily stops issuing visas to people from countries affected by Ebola, in a bid to stop the virus from entering the country.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told parliament that Australia would suspend its immigration programme for such travellers.

The restriction comes after an 18-year-old who arrived from West Africa earlier this month was admitted to hospital with a fever.

She later tested negative for Ebola.

Mr Morrison said on Monday that those who have received non-permanent or temporary visas and who have not yet left for Australia will have their visas cancelled.

Those with permanent visas can enter the country, but have to be quarantined for 21 days prior to arriving.

Mr Morrison said that since August, more than 830 people arriving in Australia have been referred for further assessment after the government introduced a new screening system.

None of them were admitted to hospital, he said.

There are currently 19 people from West Africa who are in "home-isolation" in Queensland, after they arrived in Australia under a humanitarian programme earlier this month, according to the AAP.

One of them was the 18-year-old who later tested negative for Ebola.

More than 10,000 people have contracted the Ebola virus, with 4,922 deaths, the World Health Organization says. All but 27 of the cases have occurred in West Africa - inside Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.

The UK and US have asked for Australia's help to fight the spread of Ebola in West Africa.

Australia has contributed millions to combat Ebola, but will not send Australian medical teams to Africa until an "iron-clad" agreement on evacuating health workers who may become infected is reached. The government wants a third country to provide assistance as Australia is too far for a direct medical evacuation.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott's government has been criticised by the opposition for not doing enough to combat the crisis.

Australia's is so smart!! What a great country it seems to be. I think quarantine for 21 days before they enter the country is what we should do.
