WASHINGTON — Top Obama-administration Treasury Department officials knew last June — amid a heated presidential campaign — that IRS auditors were targeting Tea Party and other conservative groups, bombshell testimony revealed yesterday.

J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general whose investigative report last week helped blow the lid off the IRS abuses, divulged for the first time that senior Treasury officials were told of his probe nearly a year ago.

That shows Obama-administration officials at least knew about allegations of wrongdoing during the presidential campaign.

He told lawmakers that there was no evidence at the time that the scandal went beyond the IRS and Treasury to other agencies or the White House. But he indicated that further investigations were being conducted.

George told the House Ways and Means Committee that he first informed the Treasury general counsel about his investigation on June 4, 2012, and “shortly thereafter” told Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin, the No. 2 official to then-Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

He said his discussions with Wolin and the general counsel were “not to inform them of the results of the audit. It was to inform them of the fact that we were conducting the audit.”

At the same hearing, Steven Miller, the ousted IRS chief, weaseled through a grilling by lawmakers investigating the tax agency’s targeting of conservative groups, giving no straightforward answers and offering only apologies.

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) pressed Miller for answers about who ordered the targeting of Tea Party and conservative groups.

“You’ve done the investigation,” Reichert said. “Who was responsible?”

Miller, whom President Obama last week forced to resign as acting IRS commissioner over the scandal, meekly responded: “I don’t have that name, sir . . . What happened here is that foolish mistakes were made by people trying to be more efficient.”

He described IRS harassment of Tea Party and other conservative groups as merely “horrible customer service.”

What Democrat said recently, "The vast majority of IRS employees are not corrupt".

Question

Al GoreThe Master of Bad-Timing—has stated:

"...Civil servants always will have the 'American people’s back' despite dysfunctional politics, former Vice President Al Gore told federal employees..."

...and...

“...The people who work in the federal government know better than anyone else what is wrong and how to fix it,” said Gore, who spoke at an Excellence in Government conference..."

The Republicans were also notified of the investigation last year:

...and—from YOUR article—here is what Republicans were advised:

George offers no confusions but says, "our Office of Audit recently began work on this issue. "We are leaving no stone unturned as part of our due diligence. As such, we won't be able to provide a detailed, substantive briefing until late April/early May."

...but looking beyond your Yahoo article you'll find:

".,.Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the IRS violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges..."

Poor Mitt Romney, he never had a chance against the Marxists corrupting our agencies...
