From the article.
"Under the law, any investments diverted from the pension funds must be replaced with interest once Congress approves raising the debt limit."
What if Congress doesn't approve raising the debt limit?

Re: Team-Obama Taps into Pensions...
Not raising the debt limit is the equivalent of one not paying his credit card bill. It would result in the default on the debt, a shutdown of the government and a downgrade by ratings firms. The debt limit ceiling was never an issue before the Tea Party came into existence, and now the Republicans repeatedly hold the economy hostage by threatening to not raise the debt ceiling unless draconian cuts are put into place. Draconian cuts are not going to happen, so the ball will be in the Republican's court. Risky business in an improving economy!

It sure sounds to me like you are the one that will not compromise. When you say things like this "Draconian cuts are not going to happen.
When you hear terms like "not going to " and "will not" one might think that you had spoken your final word. That either it's that way or nothing. I could be wrong but that's how I interpret your message.

Re: Team-Obama Taps into Pensions...
It goes back to Paul Ryan's budget and the philosophy of the conservatives. They want to do away with Medicare and make drastic cuts to Social Security and other discretionary spending to protect millionaires and large corporations from tax hikes and closed loopholes. If they don't accept tax hikes, then there will be no deal. The Republicans will suffer the most from shutting the government down, so I don't believe Obama should budge. The Republicans want a government that will be mostly a military budget, and everyone else is on their own. Not gonna happen!

It's frustrating but I'm going to try and keep the conversations open. I'll still listen. You know what's funny? Quite a few of my links were edited at a point that reinforced my side. If they read the whole article they would have found out that it was a positive leftist story.

Look, the Republicans are the ones who are stonewalling the budget negotiations, not the Democrats. That's a fact!

I am only going on your own words. There is no compromise in them.

Not even a good fig leaf!
"...President Obama threatened Social Security checks would be delayed if Congress didn't play ball on the debt ceiling. Once again, he turned pensions into a political football. There are ways to stop this. Americans should know: Social Security payments won't be affected by debt-ceiling talks, and Obama knows it. Still, it's not as if the Social Security system is healthy. In a Page 1 story Monday, IBD's Jed Graham reported that 2013 marks the first year new Social Security retirees will outlive the trust fund..."

Don't worry, Team Obama will eventually run out of fig leaves.

Watch the video before you condemn the website. The obstructionists are Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Mike Lee are refusing to allow the Senate and House negotiate the budget. I'm not making this stuff up.

Re: Team-Obama Taps into Pensions...
Tuesday, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) blasted the obstruction in a Senate floor showdown with Paul.
McCain went so far as to call his fellow senators' actions "bizarre."
"I would like to point out to my colleagues -- on this side of the aisle -- that for four years, for four years, we complained about the fact that the majority leader ... would refuse to bring a budget to the floor of the United States Senate," McCain said after Paul objected to a request by Democrats to provide for a conference committee.
"We did a budget and all of us patted each other on the back and we were so proud we did the budget. And, by golly, now we'll move with the House of Representatives, and we will have a budget, hopefully at least [we'll] begin negotiations with the House of Representatives, which is a majority of Republicans -- not Democrats, Republicans," McCain said.
The tea party trio, however, want to require that the Senate conferees named to the joint committee be barred from agreeing to any compromise that would raise taxes or hike the nation's debt ceiling.
McCain called that "absolutely unprecedented."
"We instruct the conferees," he said. "We don't require the conferees because that's why we appoint conferees and that's why we approve or disapprove the result of that conference. That's how our laws are made."
Collins chimed in, calling for "a return to regular order in this body. Well, regular order is going to conference." Then she yielded for a pointed question from McCain.
"Isn't it true that the people that the [conference] would be held with on the other side of the Capitol happen to be a majority of our party? So we don't trust the majority party on the other side of the [Capitol] to come to conference and not hold to the fiscal discipline that we want to see happen? Isn't that a little bit bizarre?" McCain asked.
"It certainly is ironic, at the least," Collins said. "It is an opportunity for the Republican House to argue for its budget."

Re: Team-Obama Taps into Pensions...
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) warned members of his own party that if they continue to block progress on a budget that Senate Democrats might vote to change the rules.
“If we continue to block things like this and block what is the regular order, then the majority will be tempted to change the rules of the Senate,” McCain said Thursday. “That would be the worst outcome.”
The Senate majority is allowed to use a "nuclear option" to change Senate rules through a majority vote. McCain was critical to negotiations earlier this year that resulted in the Senate not significantly changing the rules.
McCain’s remarks came after Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) asked for unanimous consent to form a budget committee conference to work out the differences between the House and Senate budgets. For an 11th time, a GOP senator objected unless the conferees were prohibited from addressing the debt ceiling.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) objected to the motion, saying he was worried that the majority would try to raise the debt ceiling through budget reconciliation rules, which allow just 51 votes for passage.
“What is being done here, if we agree that a small number of senators could basically change the way the Senate does business, it could have serious ramifications in the future,” McCain said.

"Changing the rules" is another way to "play at Democracy".
Nobody beats the Marxists at that.

It just shows how the TEA-baggers want nothing more than total annihilation of our government....what more people need to remember is that WE are the government! and these clowns are the puppets of the Corporatists! While you all run around screaming Socialist, Marxist, Kenyan blah blah.....it's these TEA-bagger clowns that are bringing us down by refusing to conduct any business!!!! I'm always amazed that people who claim to hate government, would want to represent it....

I heard about, "TEA-baggers" on a porn site and on "urban dictionary". They both said it meant the same thing. Did you think it meant the made up version "a person who is unaware that they have said or done something foolish, childlike, noobish, lame, or inconvenient"?
