PORTSMOUTH, N.H. —For the first time since the old Memorial Bridge was taken down last fall, a full bridge built on the same piers now stretches from Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine.

The final 300-foot center span was floated into place after 1 a.m. Monday, and the barge that brought it there was removed by early in the afternoon.
Once the section is in place, the next step will be getting the lift span to function, which is expected to take several days.
The river will be closed to ship traffic until Saturday, as crews work two 12-hour shifts each day to connect the systems together.
The bridge should open to traffic next month.
“We are still looking good,” said Joe Meyer, the Iron Workers superintendent. “We are working two shifts. We are working day and night here, trying to get things done.”

I was there the other day and it's looking more normal with a bridge across the river.
