And in a week or so we will shoot off fireworks and drink beer and proclaim how "free" we are.

I know, it's very sad isn't it? And when I watch the flag go by, tears are in my eyes for my country that I love, but so sad what this government has done to it.

People still do believe we are free in this country. I was watching Channel 8 the other morning and she said something like: " And now to a country that really isn't free." And you know what I thought.

"Agency was so busy spying on three hundred million people that it failed to notice one dude working for it.

“I guess we were so busy monitoring the everyday communications of every man, woman, and child in the nation that we didn’t notice that a contractor working for us was downloading tons of classified documents,” the agency spokesman said. “It’s definitely embarrassing, for sure.”

Despite having an annual budget in the neighborhood of ten billion dollars, the agency had no idea that a dude who was working for it five days a week was getting ready to send those classified documents to a journalist who would then tell everybody in the world.

“Maybe if we hadn’t been so busy keeping our eye on those other three hundred million people, we would have noticed that this one guy who was working right under our noses was up to something totally fishy,” the spokesman said. “But you know what they say about hindsight. I don’t know what to say. Maybe we need a bigger budget or something.”

Iceland to Offer Snowden Citizenship?

Post  News Hawk on Fri Jul 05, 2013 6:27 pm

"Granting citizenship to Snowden, who admits to revealing key details of U.S. surveillance activities would circumvent the rule that he must be on Icelandic soil to apply for asylum there.

The same tactic helped get eccentric chess master Bobby Fischer to Iceland from Japan in 2005 to escape U.S. prosecution for breaking sanctions imposed on the former Yugoslavia, according to 21st Century Wire.

Ogmundur Jonasson, whose liberal Left-Green Party is backing the proposal along with the Pirate Party and Brighter Future Party, put the issue before the Judicial Affairs Committee, but the idea received minimal support.

'But citizenship is an extremely delicate issue when it's granted by parliament instead of granted through ordinary legal processes.'

Iceland's parliament...saw three Pirate Party members elected in 2013. NPR billed the party as an 'international online freedom movement.'

Jonasson argued to parliament on Thursday that Snowden 'is now being chased and has nowhere to go,' according to Icelandic media.

Snowden also has a friend in former Icelandic presidential candidate Asthor Magnusson, who is collecting signatures from Icelanders as part of a petition to make his a citizen.

(Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Friday he had decided to offer asylum to former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who has petitioned several countries to avoid capture by Washington. "In the name of America's dignity ... I have decided to offer humanitarian asylum to Edward Snowden," Maduro told a televised military parade marking Venezuela's independence day.
