Watch out for moose poop!
Starting Friday, the Great North Woods will be hosting the 22nd Annual Moose Festival will be celebrated in Colebrook, Columbia, Errol, Pittsburg, Stewartstwown and Canaan, Vt.
Karen Ladd, who is heading up the publicity efforts, said things are looking good with perfect weather on tap for the three-day event which begins at 3 p.m.
The fun starts on Colebrookâs Main Street, with a Street Fair and sidewalk sales, black powder shooting exhibit, boomerang demonstration, Bobo the Clown, a chicken barbecue, and music by the Carlton Hill Band and the Parker Hill Road Band.
The Moose Cruise Parade at 7 p.m. is always a favorite, and the day ends with a fabulous fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Saturday, the event goes to Canaan, Vt. with the Moose Watchers Breakfast (7-10 a.m.) to fuel you up for a full day of activities. Browse the Moose Country Fair, admire the classic cars on display at the Moose Festival Auto Show, and enter the Moose Festival Photography Contest.
Sample, judge and enjoy real moose stew during the Moose Festival Cook-off, enjoy moose burgers during the barbecue cookout, and sign up for the Moose Calling Contest at 1 p.m.
Other activities include horse and wagon historical tours, maple syrup tasting and competition, the 11th Annual Dog Show, and music from the Carlton Hill Band.
On Saturday, Moose Festival activities in Pittsburg include hayrides at Maple Ridge Farm, a traditional ham-and-bean supper at the Pittsburg Community Hall, and a Blue Grass Concert under the stars at the Amey Farm. Bring your blankets or chairs and relax under the stars to the music of the Parker Hill Road Band, Uncommon Folk, Back Shed String Band and Kerry Smith.
