That was the message of the Obama administration and their friends in the media for the past two years, and now we know why: Benghazi is the scandal they always denied it was.

Thanks to a lawsuit by watchdog group Judicial Watch, the administration last week released correspondence about the terrorist attack in Libya on Sept. 11, 2012 that left US ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others dead.

One memo, from Ben Rhodes, the deputy national security director for strategic communications, shows how the administration was trying to spin the attack as something other than their own strategic failures.

“Reinforce the president and administration’s strength and steadiness in dealing with difficult challenges,” he wrote to UN Ambassador Susan Rice. He instructed her to “underscore” that the events in Benghazi were “protests . . . rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”

Beyond the callousness of this message, and the fact that officials already knew this was the work of terrorists, that this document is just coming out now shows the depth of the administration’s cover-up.

"...That’s why they came up with this nonsense about the YouTube video, even making a big show of arresting the video’s creator after Hillary shamelessly told families of the victims he would be “brought to justice,” as if that was what they were looking for.

And that’s why, when challenged on all this several months later, Hillary shrieked, “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

This was all driven by Democrat Party politics. Every bit of it. And that’s what’s driving their claim today that Republicans are merely obsessed with Benghazi for no good reason.

Sorry. This matters. And the more we learn about how cynical this cover-up was, the more determined and pointed the questions are going to be. You don’t get to lie to the American people and then mock the people who hold you accountable for it.

"Politico reported on the switch and made mention of Eggleston’s role in the Whitewater investigation during Clinton’s first term, as well as his ties to Obama’s former White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. The high-powered lawyer helped Emanuel avoid jail time in the pay-to-play schemes involving former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.

Is the Obama administration simply gearing up for battle due to myriad unconstitutional and possibly illegal activities? Eggleston will certainly have his hands full after the last six years. Or is the announcement of Eggleston’s new position directly related to the Benghazi e-mails and the murder of four Americans?

The timeline is interesting on this one. Judicial Watch has fought for two years to get documents from the State Departments specifically pertaining to the talking points used by former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice on talk shows. A federal judge finally ordered their release two weeks ago. Three days later, Obama hired Eggleston...—Americanthinker.com
