ONE Democrat Sees the Light...
Missouri Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill said on Wednesday our debt threatens to put the nation "in a position where we're not a first-tier nation anymore."
McCaskill added, "I do believe a $17 trillion debt is irresponsible."
McCaskill's Kansas City comments were part of her "McCaskill on Main Street" tour. The Missouri Democrat explained that the federal government is now doing things it should not be doing because lawmakers "want to be loved."
"We have ourselves doing things the federal government was never intended to do. I mean, we weren't supposed to be buying municipal firetrucks at the federal government, we're doing that now," McCaskill said. "That's not the way our Constitution was designed. We weren't supposed to have the federal government paying for education. We are now doing a lot of that."
U.S. debt has skyrocketed under President Barack Obama. In Jan. 2009, U.S. debt stood at $10.6 trillion. Today, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, America's debt is $17.5 trillion--an increase of $6.9 trillion.
—Breitbart
She's sounding better as Rand Paul's running mate—a Democrat!
Harry Truman—when his time in the White House had come to an end—packed his car and drove himself back home to Missouri.
What would he think of a 17.5 trillion dollar debt?

You're damn right Claire...not supposed to buying tanks and grenades and automatic weapons for every Podunk cop shop across the nations either.
Always keep in mind, that's just the collection notice on the desk.
The one coming in the mail is for about $50 trillion.

When you consider the fact that personal wealth in this country increased by $10 trillion in 2013 alone, a debt of $17.5 trillion is not off the charts, and our deficit to GDP ratio is much lower now than it was 5 years ago. The most dangerous thing about this country is the fact that plutocrats, like the Koch brothers, are amassing all of the wealth while convincing us (not me) that we're broke! We're not broke when we have plenty of people who can commit suicide by jumping off their wallets!

The above Senate Democrat says it's irresponsible.

McCaskill is playing to a tough crowd, and might not even be in the Senate today if Todd Akin could have kept his foot out of his mouth. It's no accident that the Red States in the South are the poorest in the country, and sooner or later those poor people will figure out that they're being hoodwinked by the Plutocrats. Our ratio of public debt to GDP was much worse during WWll and we survived and thrived. During the Eisenhower Administration the highest tax rate was over 90% and remained very high until Reagan was sworn in. Our recent debt problems began with Reagan (Supply Side Economics) and continued through Bush-43, excepting Clinton. I'm not advocating for a return to Eisenhower type tax rates but the economy was very good throughout the Clinton tax rates, when we were running surpluses. No one on the Right seems to want to accept the fact that our federal budget went up 89% under Bush-43, and it's so much easier to blame the "person of color" in the White House. I tell you one thing, Hillary will get a lot more than 39% of the White vote and that's why the Republicans are trying to discredit her at every turn!

At that time, we were rebuilding foreigners who had lost much when defeated (or overrun) in WWII.
The Marshall Plan wasn't a free lunch: we were paying foreigners—almost like today—except the foreigners—are presently happily dwelling in our country.

Could help but play the race card could you?
That same “person of color” called President George W. Bush “unpatriotic” and “immoral” for adding $4 trillion in debt.
But now that the “person of color” is in the Whitehouse, its OK?

The overwhelming majority of our last run up of $12 trillion in debt was because of George W. Bush. The person of color had very little to do with it! I'd like to say that Bush belongs in jail, but I don't think he's mentally competent for that !

Comedic gold…too bad you are serious.
I thought the debt was not a big deal? Now somebody should go to jail for it?
As much as you try to blame George W. Bush’s for Obama’s failures, Obama is responsible for what happens under his tenure and that looks to be around 10 trillion in new debt.
If only Obama could find a way to pass the blame of Obamacare onto Bush… then maybe he could save the senate from falling into Republican hands.

I don't think it's funny either. I think Bush is responsible for the prosecution of the Iraq War with intentionally false and manipulated information, and that includes the needless destruction of Iraqi cities and deaths of at least 100,000 Iraqi citizens. (not to mention our own poor troops). One of Obama's biggest mistakes was letting Bush off the hook so easily, and his reward is nothing but hatred and obstruction from the Republican Party. Our current debt is mostly a result of the Bush wars, the Bush tax cuts and the Bush recession, and only an ignorant fool would try to pin that on Obama!!
As far as Obamacare goes, the disastrous rollout caused the problem for the Democrats, but the law will eventually be one of the best things that happened to this country. The Republicans may take the Senate, but it will be of little consequence and won't last long. 2016 will be a big year for the Democrats!
I just don't get how you right wingers can so easily dismiss the Bush debacle, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised!

Bush's mistake was not to replace Clinton's Intelligence man...
You've forgotten that Bush's advisor was a Clinton administration "holdover"...
