The bill would have created 27 new medical facilities to treat veterans. And what about the House Armed Services Committee ? Isn't the House controlled by Republicans, so where do they stand in terms of also accepting responsibility for this debacle?

I have worked for the VA for 25 years as a pharmacist. If a patient wants to talk to a pharmacist he will talk to a pharmacist. The same can be said for the Doctors and Nurses.

The majority of the care givers do a great job under most difficult circumstances. I would also estimate that about 20% should be fired tomorrow morning.

The VA brings out the best in most care givers. It also brings out the worst in a few. I personally know many nurses and doctors and pharmacists that have given many hours of work without any compensation for their off the clock hours. I know one doctor that will actually make house calls for the Vets. They as I do it for the Vets.

Those Vets are the ones that picked up MI Garands, M16s, climbed into tanks, hit beaches, fought in rice paddies, deserts, and jungles, flew B17s, B24s, B29s, Sabers, F4s, F100s, F104 etc. Many of those died in the deserts, paddies, jungles and many of those planes and men did not return to home base or return at all. Even more returned with terrible physical injuries and mental trauma. I serve and love those vets.

The problem with the VA is a vast overbearing inefficient buearocracy that makes it very difficult for us to provide quality care for our warriors.

The problem is not one of money if the budget were spent wisely. The problem is government buereoracy that can not be solved by government.

However the solution is not difficult but politically very difficult.

The VA has great facilities and "mostly" great personel working there. We should turn the VA over to private interprise to run the facilities on a for profit basis. The governments only role should be to make sure these funds are spent properly and most importantly give the vet access to quality care. If a facility is substandard it should be closed and the vets diverted to private facilities. If a private enterprise has true and free authority to fire the few bad employees we would not need to close any VA as it would quickly come up to a high standard.

He stated: “The bottom line is: Are veterans being impacted in terms of their health care? I would be deeply disturbed if it turns out that as a consequence of this, what you say is managing this budget shortfall, turns out to be simply scrimping on the care that we’re providing our veterans. So I’d like a specific answer to that.”

Will the Veterans Administration scandal wake up those people who have been blithely saying that what we need is a "single payer" system for medical care? Delays in getting to see a doctor have been a common denominator in government-run medical systems in England, Canada and Australia, among other places.

Class warfare rhetoric would have us resenting "the top ten percent" in income. But that would be a farce, because most of us would be resenting ourselves, since more than half of all Americans — 54 percent — are in the top ten percent at some stage of their lives.

Some people act as if the answer to every problem is to put more money and power in the hands of politicians.

Freedom means nothing if it does not mean the freedom to do what other people don't like. Everyone was free to be a Communist under the Stalin dictatorship, and everyone is free to be a Muslim in Saudi Arabia. Yet whole generations are coming out of our colleges where only those who are politically correct are free to speak their minds. What kind of America will they create?

In Thomas Piketty's highly-praised new book, "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" he asserts that the top tax rate under President Herbert Hoover was 25 percent. But Internal Revenue Service records show that it was 63 percent in 1932. If Piketty can't even get his facts straight, why should his grandiose plans for confiscatory global taxation be taken seriously?

What our country needs now, more than ever is real leadership, someone who doesn’t wait for a crisis, but is able to foresee an issue and deal with it before it happens. Unfortunately for America, you’ve been too busy campaigning and don’t have time to deal with the health care crisis of our veterans. The only thing you seem to care about is your own radical agenda, and now our vets are paying for your negligence with their lives.

As I sit here typing this out I’m dealing with my own VA nightmare which involves the Phoenix VA.  I have given 3 limbs for this country, but apparently that is not enough.  A “clerical error” made by a VA employee has resulted in nearly a year of abuse and mismanagement of my case. In other words, the VA is stealing over $7000 from my disability compensation that I earned when I lost 3 of my limbs for our country.

On this Memorial Day, as I battle your incompetent bureaucrats my family would like to thank you for once again failing our veterans. We can’t help but wonder about the disastrous socialized medicine program that we will surely be dealing with if Obamacare is allowed to be fully implemented. If our incompetent VA cannot handle government healthcare for a fraction of our population, who would be foolish enough to believe a massive health care system designed to provide health care for all American’s would be any different?  You can’t even find someone to build a competent website to work for your socialized medicine program when you had your name attached to it, so why would you care about our veterans when you could so easily push the blame off on someone else?

The problems at Veterans Affairs extend well beyond long wait lists, with a report Tuesday showing the department is plagued with poor care that has cost up to 1,000 veterans their lives and left taxpayers on the hook for nearly $1 billion in malpractice settlements since the beginning of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some of the problems detailed in the report by Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma are downright ghoulish. They include the case of a former security chief at a New York Veterans Affairs medical center whom the FBI arrested on charges of plotting to kidnap, rape and murder women and children.

More standard is the nightmarish bureaucratic bungling that shows a department in disarray and a culture more concerned with punishing whistleblowers than with fixing the problems they pointed out, said Mr. Coburn, Senate Republicans’ chief investigator who has earned a reputation as the top waste-watcher in Congress.

“The problems at the VA are worse than anyone imagined,” Mr. Coburn said. “Over the past decade, more than 1,000 veterans may have died as a result of VA’s misconduct and the VA has paid out nearly $1 billion to veterans and their families for its medical malpractice.”

The VA has come under fire in recent months over reports that dozens of veterans died while stuck on secret waiting lists at a VA facility in Phoenix. Since then, an inspector general’s investigation has found widespread misuse of secret wait lists in a number of facilities. The department’s secretary has resigned..."
