Rafters to spend 44 hours on Lake Winnipesaukee for Make-A-Wish fundraiser

MEREDITH, N.H. —It will be a very busy few days at Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee as the annual Rafting for Wishes raises money to help seriously ill children’s dreams come true.
Hannah Milewsky, who was living with cancer when Make-A-Wish New Hampshire sent her family to Disney, said she knows what sick kids go through.
“It’s really hard taking medicine daily and trying to fit in with everyone else,” she said.
Hannah is cancer free, but there are some kids who will never get better.
Jason Tremblay and Jason Perry are spearheading Rafting for Wishes by floating on Meredith Bay for 44 hours straight.
“Our goal is to raise $150,000 for Make-A-Wish New Hampshire,” Perry said.
Tremblay and Perry will be joined by people on 20 other rafts. Many people who are participating are close to an ill child.
“It’s wonderful because it brings together all of our wish families, and those in the community that really want to help and support us,” said Julie Baron of Make-A-Wish New Hampshire.
Make-A-Wish New Hampshire has more than 50 children waiting for wishes to be granted. The organization has been serving children in the state for 27 years.
Health professionals said wishes give kids renewed strength to fight their illnesses. Parents said the experiences strengthen the entire family.
Hannah said she became a Make-A-Wish ambassador because she hopes to give other kids a reason to fight.
“You just got to stay positive and go on with every day,” she said. “You can’t hold back and be sad. You just kind of have to stay happy and stay positive.”
