I'm Surrounded by "Visiting" Idiots...

When the sky cleared after Noon, I took a short sail; however, it was made short, as I looked to the south. There were typical rainclouds actively forming. Before I heard any thunder, I headed home. Ten minutes after I'd secured my boat, thunder could be heard. Ten minutes later, after several peals of thunder (that one could feel), Winter Harbor emptied out, of about 25 boats.

And where were they going?



Directly into the worst of it!

 

The harbor eventually filled with strong gusts of wind, spray being blown off the surface, and large swells that did not reach shore (a first).

Now (at 3:20) that the rain and winds have nearly stopped, a large "Trojan" cruiser has left its usual weekend Johnson's Cove anchorage. A small pontoon boat has just appeared. Everybody's standing in their PFDs, looking a bit shaken.

I wonder where they rode this one out?

Sure were a lot of showers this afternoon. My poor dog has not stopped shaking.

BTW: We're getting hail with the newest change in wind and storm.

Well if the eagles are out, at least we are inside. No hail here. At least that I saw.

The St. Lawrence Seaway...Time to ban weather on the lake!

'Just joshing about eagles. Sailing, I see one or more bald eagles every day. (Listen for a group of crows making noise).

My part of Wolfeboro lost power for several hours. "Emergency" power telephone lines were all busy.

The map is zoomed out to show the mass of "charged weather" heading our way—and it did arrive! Flood warnings came over my cellphone—not that I can get flooded here.

This is where it all began yesterday. Towering clouds over Lake Winnipesaukee blossomed into roaring thunderstorms which tracked east-southeastward into western and southern ME. Training of storm cells along the same track resulted in hours and hours of frequent dangerous lightning, flooding downpours, bursts of wind thankfully with little or no rotation and some large hail in spots. In one 30-minute period, York County ME received close to 3500 lightning bolts with some strikes to structures and trees.
