Winni Derby starts Friday
More than $50,000 in prizes will be awarded to anglers with the biggest fish in the 31st Annual Winni Derby, presented by the Laconia Rotary Club.
The fishing is only on Lake Winnipesaukee in central New Hampshire Friday through Sunday, and winners will have to submit to a lie detector test to be sure the fish they have in their possession came to them according to the rules.
Anglers come from all over New England participate and seem to agree that the rules make it a fair event.
Last year, anglers enjoyed a great turnout and summer-like weather, though that is not always the greatest conditions for fishing.
This year, the weather looks pretty fair again, which will be good for turnout.
Last year, there were over 175 fish registered. Winning last year in the adult salmon division was Shane Nassar from Ashland. His fish weighed 5.42 pounds and was 24.875 inches.
In the trout division last year, Jeremy Bryer from Bar Harbor, Maine, won with a trout weighing 9.18 lbs and measuring 30 inches. That's a big fish.
In the junior salmon division, Sam Zdon from Hillsboro won with a 4.26-pound fish measuring 23.625 inches.

Is that really true, they have to take a lie detector test? That's pretty sad, isn't it? That it is necessary?
