PORTSMOUTH - Pease Air National Guard Base has been selected as the top Air National Guard base to receive the new KC-46A tanker, U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., announced Wednesday morning.

Pending results of an environmental impact study, Pease, home to the 157th Air Refueling Wing, will be the first Air National Guard unit to receive the next generation tanker.

Col. Paul Hutchinson, commander of the 157th Air Refueling Wing said when the final decision is made in the spring of 2014 they expect to add an additional 100 or more full-time jobs at Pease, representing about $7 million in additional direct payroll into the Seacoast economy and about $45 million in military construction contracts over the next several years.

Why are these planes with U.S. Navy markings seen flying over the lake?

A week or so ago I saw a very whitish colored plane being refueled. It was pretty far away about over the Sandwich Mountains but looked to be around the same size as the c130.

I wonder how much having the bridge out for so long effected the business' on either side of the bridge?

I think the bigger problem may have been on State St in Portsmouth. I know the one restaurant down there closed up. (Rosa?)

I'm not too familiar with down there. It's a cool area. If your looking to learn some history you can visit the two forts across the river from each other. New Hampshire's Fort Constitution by the Coast Guard Station and Fort McClary over in Kittery Maine. You can see the USS Albacore too.

There is a lot of good stuff to see, indeed! I still want to see Strawberry Banke, and one of the nicest flower gardens you'll ever see is in Prescott Park. Portsmouth and Dover were established in 1623! Really amazing!

We've done the Portsmouth Harbor cruise and the cruise to the Isles of Shoals and I highly recommend both. Fort McClary is very interesting as well. The new bridge is coming along real nice.
