White Mountain attractions launch unofficial start to season
There's a great picture of the Cog Rail Road on this page. And I understand that it gets steeper than this!
It's the weekend people set aside for planting, parades and personal reflections of those who helped pave the way for Americans' freedom to pursue such pastimes.
In the next few days, Memorial Day programs across the state will commemorate members of the military who gave their lives for their country, while making new memories with family and friends.
To that end, this weekend serves as an unofficial launch of the summer season, with attractions throughout New Hampshire opening their doors, including a host of sites in the White Mountains, which draws both day trippers and overnight visitors.

The steepest spot on the cog excursion is called "Jacob's Ladder". It is shown in the center video on their web page:

Their own mechanics built the diesel engines, and you'll notice in the video that the locomotive still doesn't have it's sides on the engine. I believe they still do 1 coal/steam fired excursion daily for the cog traditionalists. (possibly first trip)
