If you live in the United Kingdom, you live under the heel of Socialism's might. Even the USSR has morphed into a government more like the US was—formerly!
Even Red China is demonstrating the power and benefits that freed-up Capital brings to an economy.
...What a concept...

You can find out anything you want about anybody through the use of their debit and credit cards. For God's sake, people swipe at Dunkin' Donuts now!

Collectivism is old news. The Patriot Act was passed over 11 years ago.

Re: What privacy?
It seems it gets added too all the time, too, stripping away all our freedoms in the name of "safety".

That point can be argued either way. I don't think it's appropriate for the government to monitor our E-mails and phone conversations for kicks, but at the same time we hold government responsible for our safety. Since 9/11 we've been having our privacy violated every time we fly, and the government tells us what we can or cannot carry on the plane. This is the new world we live in.

I can't disagree with what you said. Unfortunately laws are made to be broken and bad things still happen whether there is a law against it or not. Look at Chicago. They have outlawed guns there and yet there are more shootings than in Capone's time according to an article I just read.

Chicago is a perfect example of Collectivism gone rampant, And to think that even more Federal Laws should be applied to a free people—especially under the heel of ObamaCare.
Not that Liberal states can't be even more obtuse—and infringing. Today, it was announced that Oregon requires private sign-makers, photographers and printers to make reference to "Gay Marriage", even though those privately-owned businesses personally oppose it!
Re: What privacy?
Chicago was averaging about 800-900 homicides annually in the early 1990s and lately they have been averaging 450-500.

I'm not saying that 450-500 homicides is anything to brag about, but it's very difficult to re-classify a homicide. Generally speaking, a dead body riddled with bullet holes is a homicide. Gun control is a whole different issue.

WHL's point was that in Al Capone's day, homicides were fewer than today. That it's worse today is a strong indication that Liberal-Progressives like Mayor Rahm Emmanuel are worse for Americans than outright Mafia-types.
In the meantime, schoolteachers in New York City have been enabled—by state law— to dispense the "Morning-After" pill to students. If a student brings Tylenol or Midol to class, they can be suspended!
NEW YORK, February 4, 2013 – New York City schools distributed 12,721 doses of the “Morning-After Pill” to students last year, according to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. The 40 school-based “health centers” also performed thousands of injections of long-term contraception and implanted intrauterine devices (IUDs).
NO parental permissions or consultations are needed...
Re: What privacy?
Thirty six million Chinese died from government induced starvation from 1958 to 1962 under Mao Zedong’s failed agricultural policies. Anyone who disagreed with those policies was “punished”. We never hear about that tragedy because he had all mention of it replaced from all literature and records with glowing reports of his successes.
We only hear about the six million Jews that Hitler killed never about the 36,000,000 that Collectivism killed.
(The Collectivism that Obama decrees with every Executive Order).
