Truer than one would think. It is nice to live in a dream world, but unfortunately good things don't come that easy.

That reminds me. I was behind a young lady (and her little boy) yesterday in a store. She was paying for a bottle of soda and some little thing of candy. She started to pay, then they decided she had to do the two separately. After much discussions and two people going back and forth she eventually ran her card through twice and got $50 back. It obviously was a (food stamp) card. She got about 6 receipts back. I have no idea why. But the whole process which I only summarized took about 10 mintues to buy two things. I picked the wrong line again. Does anyone know why she got so many slips back????

I picked the wrong line, too, following a lady who was making multiple purchases for several people. Don't ask me how that got processed: it was a lot paper that exchanged hands.

Next time, ask a cashier why those transactions use up so much time. "My" cashier just said "WIC", and shrugged: but her "second language" wasn't able to express her thoughts—at least, to me.

Thomas Sowell would say, "WIC 'sounded good'".

I said to the cashier that that was very complicated. He said it was because she wanted money back. Yeah, 50$ back on a 3$ purchase so she could go by God knows what!!!

Another idea that "sounded good":

This time, the state of Washington had earlier given college grants to Illegals.

"...An earlier version of the legislation seemed far more appropriate than the version that’s now on its way to the Senate for debate. That version made eligible only young immigrants who had qualified for the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

"Obama’s program offers two-year renewable permission to stay in the U.S. for young illegal immigrants (under age 31) who arrived in the country before their 16th birthday. Young immigrants allowed to stay under the Obama program are in the U.S. legally, albeit temporarily.

"It would be great if every child had access to higher education and the opportunity to pay for it. That’s not the case. The money is not available to serve all. Lines have to be drawn somewhere in establishing eligibility standards for state financial aid grants. Income level and grade-point average, for example, are used.

"Legal status is a reasonable place to draw one of those lines."

And not to mention that if ALL kids go to college there is nothing special about it. It is just more government education like going through high school. I don't know why they don't think about this.
