Democrats never learn from History.
Why not try passing a "Luxury Tax" and see what happens to industry.
(Again).

History tells us that massive tax cuts, unnecessary wars and the ramping up of the federal budget by 89% is a recipe for disaster. Aren't you the guy who threw out the suggestion of a veto proof majority in both chambers this Fall? Perhaps there should be some study of math before diving into selective history!

The former "Luxury Tax"—now dead—should be a lesson; but no, Prog's heads go back into the sand.

You're comparing apples to oranges by comparing a tax to a tax break, such as carried interest. The Luxury Tax was created by George Bush (41) and did not generate the revenue that was anticipated. It was replaced by the Clinton tax rates and our economy was in great shape during the Clinton years. Over 16 million jobs were created and we had a balanced budget during Clinton's second term. Bush (43) very quickly destroyed our economy after that. The wealthy do not create jobs with the obscene tax breaks they get. They only bury their money in the Cayman Islands, Switzerland, Bermuda, etc. etc. If the Progressives have their heads in the sand, then you have your head up your...................! Follow the money!

Re: Five Welfare Programs That Should Be Stopped
The New York Times addressed that mistake, showing how a "simple and easy tax" has repercussions far beyond the need of more Federal money to waste.
BTW: Was the Gulf War one of those "unnecessary" wars?
.
"Bush, in his budget proposals, asked Congress to repeal the 10 percent luxury tax on yachts priced at more than $100,000 (and also on private planes that cost more than $250,000). The repeal, which Congress is likely to approve, would be retroactive to Feb. 1."
Since the tax took effect in January 1990, hundreds of builders of large and small boats have spoken of it as a stake driven into the heart of an industry already suffering from the recession, tighter bank rules on financing and fallout from the gulf war.
In the last two years, about 100 builders of luxury boats -- recreational craft costing more than $100,000 -- cut their operations severely and laid off thousands of workers. Some builders filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code.
