Do you still believe there isn't much waste in government, NB? 50 million wasted by the IRS isn't enough to convince you?

"The conference spending included $4 million for an August 2010 gathering in Anaheim, Calif., for which the agency did not negotiate lower room rates, even though that is standard government practice, according to a statement by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Instead, some of the 2,600 attendees received benefits, including baseball tickets and stays in presidential suites that normally cost $1,500 to $3,500 per night. In addition, 15 outside speakers were paid a total of $135,000 in fees, with one paid $17,000 to talk about "leadership through art," the House committee said."

From the article.

I agree that the spending is a complete waste and should be stopped, WHL. I see the article also points out that the Inspector General's report finds no link to the Cincinnati office receiving their targeting orders from Washington, despite what Darrell Issa has been saying.

IRS WASTE Empty 4 Political Takeaways from the IRS Inspector General's Report

Post  fshnski Mon Jun 03, 2013 11:46 am

1. Officials knew the IRS was targeting conservatives for nearly two years.

2. Over time, the IRS expanded its criteria to target additional groups.

3. The IRS harassed tea party groups by asking unnecessary questions.

4. The inspector general’s recommendations don’t include firing or reprimanding IRS employees.

The report makes nine recommendations, including training employees “before each election cycle,” but does not recommend dismissals or reprimands. This alone could prove political fodder given the wide scope of the scandal. With such sweeping mistakes, administration critics are demanding to know who will be fired for the malfeasance.
