Elbert Guillory: Why I Chose To Become A Republican
Hello, my name is Elbert Lee Guillory, and I’m the senator for the twenty-fourth district right here in beautiful Louisiana. Recently I made what many are referring to as a ‘bold decision’ to switch my party affiliation to the Republican Party. I wanted to take a moment to explain why I became a Republican, and also to explain why I don’t think it was a bold decision at all. It is the right decision — not only for me — but for all my brothers and sisters in the black community.

"So my brothers and sisters of the American community, please join with me today in abandoning the government plantation and the Party of disappointment. So that we may all echo the words of one Republican leader who famously said, ‘free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last.’"

The movie, Lincoln, was a great reenactment of what the senator is saying, but the parties of today are much different. If you look into Teddy Roosevelt's presidency and philosophy, he would be thrown out of todays Republican party.

That hasn't much to do with the present.

No surprise there.......but of course, you won't say why you disagree.

Read the article like I did. I agree with what he said. He said it better than I could.

I read his opinion, I asked you to explain YOUR disagreement....
BTW first you said you disagreed now you say you do agree, which is it?

I salute Theodore Roosevelt (R) for the start of The National Park System; otherwise, he was a Progressive—just not one that today rages against The Founders.
Re: Elbert Guillory: Why I Chose To Become A Republican
Why are you blaming me because you lost a cohort? He chose to leave the left because he, like I, has lost faith in the course this nation is taking.
Plus he's got balls enough to tell it like it is.

Teddy Roosevelt campaigned for a "square deal" and a "national health service" in 1912, and he was definitely bucking the establishment with a call for campaign finance reform and the listing of lobbyists. Today we have Citizens United and non-profits with anonymous donors.

What's that have to do with Guillory?

"Progressive" ideas that seemed like a good idea at the time; fortunately, we've learned that "Central Planning" only stumbles and kills off millions of people through useless bureaucracy. Or, as Soviet workers famously used to say,News Bustard wrote:Teddy Roosevelt campaigned for a "square deal" and a "national health service" in 1912, and he was definitely bucking the establishment with a call for campaign finance reform and the listing of lobbyists. Today we have Citizens United and non-profits with anonymous donors.
"...We pretend to work while they pretend to pay..."
"Progressive FDR" started many "deals", but none survived until a WWII attack famously brought this country out of its anti-war torpor. Or, as someone once famously stated,
"...Think of National-HealthCare run by the same people as your state's office of DMV..."
