Going ahead with parking lot
renovation in back of Town Hall. With the construction at the Congo Church, the teachers can't park there and now they won't be able to park in this lot. They have a problem.

Aren't there well over a 100 new parking spaces at Foss Field? Can't the teachers use that area until the construction is done?

Re: Going ahead with parking lot
THat is what they will have to do. I think Jan Brooks said that the teachers have a lot to carry though and it would be a hard walk with all their stuff. Someone suggested busses going to get them there. I am just saying what I think I remember reading in the GSN. Don't quote me. Would have to go back and look to make sure of the details.

Re: Going ahead with parking lot
Yes, we could pick the teachers up in limos. Or better yet, we could pick them up at their homes and bring them to school!!
Which reminds me, I heard a story of some student who needs special attention so the district takes him to Mass. every day-in the summer! Isn't that a bit over doing it? And I am sure it is not the only case. I guess we (the schools) are nothing but babysitters these days.

Wow, that's certainly a cynical and uncharitable look at special education.WHL wrote:Yes, we could pick the teachers up in limos. Or better yet, we could pick them up at their homes and bring them to school!!

Do you think it is necessary to be hauling kids to Mass each day, NO LESS IN THE SUMMER, Matzoh?

Don't you mean that there is only one "e" in judgment and not " there's no "e" in judgment"?

I am negative because I think that kids first, do not need to be babysat in the summer, only during school time, and second, I think there must be something closer than taking a child to Mass. every day.

New Hampshire has nothing on Florida.
Give your Florida schoolchild a pistol and send him to school: voila! you have a kid in a private school paid by the taxpayers!
Re: Going ahead with parking lot
And I imagine that would happen here, too, NH.

Re: Going ahead with parking lot
Why don't the parents of the special needs child take some time to educate them during the summer time.

'Didn't find anything in the Eagle Tribune; however, Haverhill is shelling-out some major bucks:
"School Supt. Raleigh Buchanan will stay in Haverhill for at least another three years. The School Committee unanimously approved a new contract that immediately increases his annual salary from $130,000 to $140,675. Buchanan's deal includes an option for a fourth year that would kick in by approval of the School Committee between the eighteenth and twenty-fourth month of the agreement. The agreement includes opportunities for additional pay raises to be negotiated at the start of the second and third years of the contract. It also includes $16,500 in annual perks, including: $6,000 payments into a retirement account; $5,000 for professional development training; and a $3,000 personal vehicle allowance. He can carry over 15 unused vacation days through the end of this calendar year, and it increases his annual payment toward retirement from $5,000 to $6,000. - See more at: http://www.hgazette.com/local/x1723396925/Haverhill-news-round-up#sthash.ABefjFPR.dpuf

Thank you, Don. There is nothing wrong with helping special needs kids. The problem is, it is going so far above and beyond now. Summertime is home time not school time. So if they school district is taking care of kids in the summer, they are babysitting.

You are right, parents just want to turn the responsibility of raising their children on us tax payers.
Parents should have to go to school (and pay for it themselves) to learn how to bring up special needs children. Then they could teach their children what they have learned. Just think of the money that could be saved by doing this.
