This is what militarizing police does.
When you train police that they are soldiers, in occupied territory, every encounter becomes an encounter with a "hostile", to be lit up at a moment's notice, for any reason, or no reason at all.
Look for this to happen with greater frequency every passing year.
You are ten times more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist.

(CNN) -- Police in North Carolina shot and killed a man running toward them Saturday morning -- but he may have just been looking for help after a car wreck.
Officers responded to a "breaking and entering" 911 call at a home in Charlotte.
The homeowner told dispatchers that a man had been knocking on her door repeatedly.
Police say that when they got to the scene, a man matching the caller's description ran toward them.
One of the officers fired his stun gun, but it was "unsuccessful." Another officer then opened fire, police said.

Unarmed man gunned down by police
Jonathan Ferrell died at the scene. He was shot several times.
He was unarmed.
Police now believe Ferrell was seeking assistance after crashing his car.
Florida man mistakenly shot by deputies
The crash
Ferrell was 24 and a former football player at Florida A&M University.
Police found a wrecked car nearby, indicating that he may have been trying to get help.
"It was a pretty serious accident," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe told CNN affiliate WSOC.
The crash was so severe that authorities now believe Ferrell had to climb out of the back window, affiliate WBTV reported.
He ran to the closest house for help.
The woman inside thought it was her husband.
"To her surprise, it was an individual that she did not know or recognize," Monroe told WBTV. "She immediately closed the door, hit her panic alarm, called 911."
The man stood outside and "continued to attempt to gain the attention of the homeowner," a police statement said.
The shooting
Police have charged Officer Randall Kerrick with voluntary manslaughter -- a felony. He turned himself in Saturday afternoon and was released Sunday on $50,000 bond.
Police used "charged" and "ran" and "advanced" in their description of what Ferrell did.
There were three officers at the scene, but Kerrick was the only one to use a gun.
He fired several times, police said.
"The evidence revealed that Mr. Ferrell did advance on Officer Kerrick and the investigation showed that the subsequent shooting of Mr. Ferrell was excessive," police said in another statement issued late Saturday night. "Our investigation has shown that Officer Kerrick did not have a lawful right to discharge his weapon during this encounter. "
All three officers have been placed on paid leave.
A charge of voluntary manslaughter means the person used excessive force in self-defense, or carried out the act without intent to kill.
Police called the incident "unfortunate."
"It has devastated a family as well as caused a great deal of sadness and anxiety in our organization," a statement said.
Kerrick's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 p.m., the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office said.
"In every case, the District Attorney's Office evaluates the evidence available and works to achieve a fair and just outcome," the office said in a statement.
Times Square shooting: Police wound 2 bystanders by mistake
The reaction
Friends expressed grief on social media, calling Ferrell a "brother" and demanding "justice."
He had at least one brother, Willie, who played with him at Florida A&M.
The university said it was "deeply saddened" at the loss. In a statement, Michael Smith, interim athletic director, said Ferrell played safety and was part of the 2010 championship team. "Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during their time of bereavement," Smith said.
Ferrell was engaged.
"We loved him. Our family loved him," his fiancee's mother told WSOC.
He would have turned 25 next month.

Too often, a cocaine overdose will produce such aggressive "running" behavior, requiring a Taser. All too often, such drug-induced behavior ends with the abuser's death—usually without intervention.
"The man stood outside and "continued to attempt to gain the attention of the homeowner'".
Some toxicology reports can take weeks to produce. (Have we seen the "last chapter" in this?)

I don't know what "aggressive" or "threatening" running is.

Why does there seem to be so much of this? Are we just hearing more about it, or were cops always like this?

I would have just stood there and let him attack me. So what that the lady says he was trying to break into her house. I would have also ignored the fact that the tazer didn't slow him down. An ex-football player acting crazed couldn't hurt me.

I thought of that also. I have been involved in many instances of helping people with brain trauma, some life threatening. Not one of them ran towards me or anybody else.

Militarized police training at the state and federal level, along with adoption of the "circular force continuum".
The CFC was adopted in Wolfeboro as well.

I believe this is indicative of where our nation is heading. We can't blame it on the police. They have to respond to crazier and crazier situations. They have to deal with more and more languages. They have to deal with AA and PC. We set them up for failure. Unless, we start using facts and common sense.

"'Acute Anxiety' Running"
An NFL football player running towards you carrying something in his hand? Not that "threatening running" would bring out a Taser, which is used at close (25') ranges. A Taser is used in "close-in" confrontations. If he had "Cocaine Intoxication", any NFL player would be a very dangerous adversary—even unarmed.Anti Federalist wrote:"...I don't know what "aggressive" or "threatening" running is..."

Re: NC-Cops taser and shoot unarmed man who was running to them for help after car crash
Why does Wolfeboro have to adopt all these federal codes???? Can't we think for ourselves?
I heard Alton voted AGAINST the new school code-don't remember what it is called. Good for them, they can think for themselves.
Did you hear about the new vehicle Concord police are getting, even thought the public said they don't need it?

Being a cop has never been safer, it is not even in the top ten of most dangerous jobs, violent crime is at an all time low, millions of law abiding citizens are armed, safely, preventing literally, millions of crimes every year.
Concord cops don't need a tank, NC cops don't need to shoot first and ask questions later, SWAT teams don't need to raid innocent people's homes and shoot little girls and old men, while dithering and hanging back at real world shooting situations, like they just did in DC.

It's not a vehicle, it's a tank.

But I guess we'll never know, because "officer safety" is always more important than public service.
So just the perception of danger is enough justification for a cop to blow you away.
Oh well.
Never call cops.
Never talk to cops.
Avoid them at all costs, your life depends on it.

But in the "top ten", you know from where the risk of death—or injury—will strike.
A cop's career can be as short as 20 years—voluntarily.
Many "cops" start out desk-bound, particularly those in Federal employment.
(So the exposure to danger is spread among many employees, making the job "safer").
Re: NC-Cops taser and shoot unarmed man who was running to them for help after car crash
Yes, it IS a tank.
NC cops told to shoot first and ask questions later? Our soldiers are told to not shoot until they are shot at. So I guess it's ok to shoot Americans but not Muslims, huh?

The statistics for death and injury in the workplace are compiled by a "per capita" basis.News Hawk wrote:Thank "Public Service Unions"!Anti Federalist wrote:"...Not true. Being a cop has never been safer, it is not even in the top ten of most dangerous jobs..."

Commercial fishing is always at the top or near the top.
Not many men die, in raw numbers, but given there are few commercial fishermen anymore, and the ones that are left are risking their lives trying to make a living through all the government red tape, the percentage is higher.
In 2012, 52 cops were killed by violence, which was a near record low.
In 2013, that number, so far, is down 25 percent.
They got 587 of us in 2012 though.
52 out of the almost million cops at all levels, is insignificant, you stand about as much risk of dying by violence in a workplace shooting.
And you are ten times more likely to killed by a cop than by a terrorist.
They are the standing army the founders warned us of.
