Horse in Ossipee tests positive for EEE
OSSIPEE, N.H. —Public health officials say a horse from Ossipee has tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis.
A horse in Derry tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease last week.
The most recent finding, announced Tuesday, raises the risk level for the town of Ossipee from "remote" to "high."
The surrounding towns of Tamworth, Madison, Freedom, Effingham, Wakefield, Brookfield, Wolfeboro, Tuftonborough and Moultonborough will increase to a "moderate" risk level.
So far this season, 13 mosquito batches have tested positive for West Nile virus and 20 have tested positive for EEE. One person in Chesterfield also has been diagnosed with West Nile virus.
Public health director Dr. Jose Montero says people should protect against mosquito bites no matter where they live until there is a killing frost statewide.

Somewhere, someone's got to kill that mosquito!
Don't we get this warning every year?

Maybe, but it seems like it is all around us now. It's moving north.

Horse in Belmont tests positive for West Nile Virus
CONCORD - Public health officials announced Wednesday that a horse in Belmont has tested positive for West Nile Virus.
As a result, the risk level in Belmont has been elevated to "high."
The risk level also has been raised to "moderate" in the neighboring communities of Canterbury, Gilford, Gilmanton, Laconia, Northfield, Sanbornton and Tilton.
Dr. Jose Montero, public health director at the Department of Health and Human Services, noted while parts of the state had a frost overnight Tuesday, mosquito season isn't over in New Hampshire.
"There are still mosquitos around and we are urging residents to continue to take precautions against mosquito bites, including using a repellent," he said.
