General Motors Co., in the latest recall related to ignition-switch flaws, is calling back about 3.2 million more vehicles and said recall-related charges would reach $700 million in the second quarter.

The latest announcement brings GM's total recalls this year to 20 million. The biggest U.S. automaker said it is recalling models including Buick Lacrosse from 2005 to 2009; Chevrolet Impala 2006-14; Cadillac Deville 2000–05; Cadillac DTS 2004–11; Buick Lucerne 2006–11; Buick Regal LS and GS 2004–05; and Chevy Monte Carlo 2006–08.

The ignition switch may inadvertently move out of the "run" position if the key is carrying extra weight and experiences some jarring event, the company said in a statement.

GM is aware of eight crashes and six injuries related to this recall, the company said.

The company is stepping up the pace of recalls as it faces multiple investigations for its slowness in dealing with 2.6 million small cars with ignition issues linked to at least 13 deaths.

The carmaker, which also called back more than 500,000 Chevrolet Camaros Friday for an ignition-related design flaw, released the results of an internal probe into its February recall this month. The report blamed a lack of urgency in the company's engineering and legal departments in dealing with problems, though no conspiracy to hide facts.

GM is far from dead, and it was Detroit who helped us win World War ll with the efficient production of all that military armament (bombers). 'Till we become Detroit........!

I can't help but wonder why we have recalls all the time now.  We never used to have recalls like this.  Is it just shoddy workmanship, nobody cares anymore or what?

Recalls have been going on for years and many of them are computer related, such as in the Toyota acceleration fiasco. I have a VW Passat that has been recalled 3 times and has a couple of other technical service bulletins on it. Overall I think cars, both foreign and domestic, are much better today than in days gone by. They get better acceleration, better gas mileage, are more comfortable and don't rust like the older cars. The GM vehicles of the 1960s and 1970s rusted out in 3 years.

It's true, the old cars did rust out, but they didn't get recalled all the time.

Sure they did ! I had a 1963 Corvair that Ralph Nader killed off. He went after the VW bugs the same way, but VW fended him off. Matzoh hates the Corvair because Ernie Kovacs died in one, but anyone can get killed in any type of car, especially if they're not wearing a seatbelt.

Well, maybe they did have a lot of recalls then.  I guess I just don't remember them all.

I can't speak to the early model of Corvair, but I drove the later model. When the tires aren't at the proper pressure, the sense that you're driving a barge sets in. It truly was "Dangerous at Any Speed" !!!

Nader had 2 complaints with the Corvair: The gas tank was in the lap of the driver and the real wheels had independent suspension, and a sharp turn could cause one of the real wheels to cave in under the car. Chevrolet fixed that problem by putting a straight bar between the 2 rear wheels so neither could cave in, but I don't think they did much of anything about the gas tank. The only problem I ever had with the Corvair was the wind. I damn near got blown from one side to the other on the Tappan Zee Bridge one time. The guys who owned the old VW Bugs back then had the same problem. The Corvair was great in the snow as I never got stuck. The last year for production was 1969.

Matzoh put me onto a Corvair I really liked here in town, but it had been sold to a collector by the time I inquired about it. I saw a nice one down in Rochester the other day, looked beautiful, but it wasn't for sale. You very rarely see them on the road anymore, it's no wonder with collapsing axles and gas tanks that are moving time bombs.  affraid

I would love to get another Corvair, but I don't want to pay 12K for it. I keep looking along the road.

These recalls regard an ignition part that many employed with Government Motors "hushed-up" about. It was only when The Treasury Department sold its final stake in General Motors, that the recall(s) began.

Taxpayers are still out more than $10 billion dollars
