I didn't know Dr. Toms, but his name is certainly familiar. Was he a partner with an overly-discussed osteopathic physician?
Was he on-duty at the hospital, or was he in the hospital due to illness?

Re: A Wolfeboro Death
That's right. Dr Toms died too. He was a vet on Keewaydin Road for many years, NH.

He was a respected veterinarian. The photo of the mournful Golden Retriever was intended to be your first clue.News Hawk wrote:I didn't know Dr. Toms, but his name is certainly familiar. Was he a partner with an overly-discussed osteopathic physician?

OK, so he was ill, and at Huggins for treatment of something.Matzoh Heppelwhite. wrote:He was a respected veterinarian. The photo of the mournful Golden Retriever was intended to be your first clue.
Now I recall being at his house, but that was a really long time ago. I don't remember taking my dogs there for medical reasons. Was he boarding (only) pets at one time? (...and had given up the practice of veterinary medicine?)

Re: A Wolfeboro Death
He was in a nursing home, I think Mt. View (that's the one in Ossipee, isn't it?) He was retired long ago. Since we were kids our animals went to him. I think he was the only vet in town, I may be wrong. The only other vet I remember as a kid was Dr Hale and I don't think he lived here, but on the other side of the lake. Dr Toms retired after Sandy Wing opened her practice. That was quite a few years ago. He had to be around 90+-.

He was also one of the best Selectmen in the history of the Town of Wolfeboro.

In reply to WHL.
He looks so healthy plus the sweater gave it away. That's "old school". I have some older pro skiers as friends and I've seen them dressed in similar fashion.

Re: A Wolfeboro Death
Hopefully Dr. Toms' obituary will be in the upcoming Granite State News so that I can post it here, but meanwhile here is some information about his upcoming memorial service.
There will be a memorial service for Dr. Lawrence S. Toms on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 5-7 @ Lord's funeral home in Wolfeboro on Route 28 next to Parson's furniture. All are welcome.

Re: A Wolfeboro Death
Some of my memory of Dr. Toms.
He was very smart and well educated. He had a veterinary practice located at his home on Keywaydin Road. His wife Doris was as nice a person as you could ask for.
Dr. Toms wasn't especially noted for suffering fools very well, a quality I admired him for.
My animals all liked him well and house pets are very good judges of character, don't you know?
He was a Wolfeboro Selectmen and brought his intelligence and common sense to that position. He and a gentleman named John Metcalf were the two best selectmen that Wolfeboro ever had in my judgement.
He was a good father to his children and a good husband to his wife.
