Benghazi Emails Directly Contradict White House Claim

The White House on Wednesday released 94 pages of emails between top administration and intelligence officials who helped shape the talking points about the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that the CIA would provide to policymakers in both the legislative and executive branches.

The documents, first reported by THE WEEKLY STANDARD in articles here and here, directly contradict claims by White House press secretary Jay Carney and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the revisions of those talking points were driven by the intelligence community and show heavy input from top Obama administration officials, particularly those at the State Department.

The emails provide further detail about the rewriting of the talking points during a 24-hour period from midday September 14 to midday September 15. As THE WEEKLY STANDARD previously reported, a briefing from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence shows that the big changes came in three waves – internally at the CIA, after email feedback from top administration officials, and during or after a meeting of high-ranking intelligence and national security officials the following morning.

What can be taken away from these emails?

With this administration, truth isn't the option. They went out of their way to keep the truth from the public because they worried how it would influence the election. That is unacceptable.

Romney was right and he was vilified for tell thing the truth.

While the emails they released are damning both to the administration and the State department; what gives this administration the right to selectively chose what they want to release? Where are the emails that include the first two days after the attack? As long as it is not classified, we the people have right to see all the emails and by some counts that is 25,000. This is really looking like the missing 18.5 missing minutes of the Nixon tapes. Now why in the world would they not include those emails? Obviously, there is incriminating information in those exchanges which the White House does not want exposed.

This is the most lying, conniving, deceitful, disastrous administration this country has ever seen. And it starts at the top. 0bama’s handlers will do everything they can to weasel out of all the latest scandals surrounding him and let other's take the blame…even if it takes down Hillary.

I am looking for an email where Obama says "Why don't we just tell the truth?"

How much else have the been holding from us. How many mistakes have they covered. Where does the buck stop?!

Seriously, they both don’t seem to be connected to their jobs in any meaningful way. Every time there are questions…they don’t know anything about it.

The President is the ultimate manager of the Executive Branch. He, and only he, is responsible for the actions of the Executive Branch.

As the CHIEF EXECUTIVE, if he can't be held responsible for the actions of HIS branch of government, then who should be?

Lost in all of this is a couple of pieces of legislation that would really strenghten the Republican party, the immigration bill and the gun background checks bill. Mitt Romney got his ass kicked by the minorities, and if the Republicans throttle the immigration bill, they may as well not run anybody against Hillary in 2016.

The Republicans have lost the argument on the economy as it bounces back, so now they need to go on this fishing expedition to give themselves any self-perceived relevance. The polls tell a different story. Obama is running at about a 49% favorability, while the Congress is running at about a 17% favorability. (RCP) Keep fishing!

That’s what the grand prize winner in the Winni Derby’s salmon division will be asked this weekend.

“Due to the rumors and information on some of the fishing blogs, there has been a raised awareness that the possibility of some of the past entries for landlocked salmon entered were not fished from Lake Winnipesaukee,” a statement on the derby’s website reads.

The polygraph examination will be completed by Crawford Polygraph Service of Moultonborough, “to be scheduled after the event at the convenience of all involved.”

The grand prize “will not be disbursed until successful completion of this test,” the statement says.

Derby officials said they have not caught anyone cheating, “but the rumors have sounded pretty strong,” said Dianne LaBrie of the derby.

“It’s just something we’re doing to make sure it’s a fair competition for everyone,” LaBrie said.

The Winni Derby will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Lake Winnipesaukee. Derby organizers say it is the state’s leading annual landlocked salmon and lake trout derby, offering more than $50,000 in prizes.

Only landlocked salmon and lake trout taken from Winnipesaukee are eligible for the prizes, which include a $12,500 grand prize in the salmon division, and a $5,000 grand prize in the lake trout division.

The event, which is run by the Laconia Rotary Club, will be headquartered at the Laconia Ice Arena at 468 Province Road in Laconia. Fish entries must be brought to the derby weigh station at the docks in Weirs Beach.

Tickets are selling faster than in years past at A.J.’s Bait and Tackle on Main Street.

“I’ve asked them for more tickets, I ran out of the first batch on Monday,” said owner A.J. Nute. “People seem to be up here fishing early this year; the fishing’s been good.”

Winni Derby organizers said the non-profit’s goal is to support the local community and preserve the salmon fishery on Winnipesaukee. The derby works in partnership with the Fish and Game Department, which stocks the lake with fish.

Derby officials say they have pledged this year to assist Fish and Game with the upgrade of better feed for fish hatcheries by taking and matching donations from anglers at this year’s derby.

Thomas Pickering and Mike Mullen sent a letter to the headhunter of the witch hunt, Darrell Issa, that they will gladly testify at Issa's next hearing, but they will not do secret depositions! I say good for them and I can't wait to hear what they have to say. I wonder if Issa will invite retired General Ham, to testify that he offered additional security to Ambassador Stevens twice, which the ambassador refused.

Meanwhile, the Republicans ran Susan Rice off the Secretary of State nomination, simply because she did her job.

Three scandals of varying degree are surrounding Obama. This has nothing to do with the republicans. Maybe. Obama is involved in all three, maybe none. One thing is clear, he benefited from all 3. He is the President and he is responsible to some degree for the actions of his administration.

Dozens of e-mails released by the White House reveal that Obama administration officials were behind the crafting of a false narrative about the attack in Benghazi, Libya. The communications raise questions about who called the shots and why, say an analyst and a lawmaker involved in the investigation.

According to the documents, officials at the State Department, CIA and White House national security staff heavily revised a CIA memo to remove all references to Islamic extremists known to have participated in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

The revisions also removed the CIA's claims that the agency had issued repeated warnings to the State Department about the threat of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Benghazi.

Among the unknowns:

•Why were the revisions made?

•Why did Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton testify before Congress that the edits were a product of the intelligence community when State officials had made many of the requests for alterations?

•Why did the White House say it made no substantive edits when the e-mails show officials there helped lead the process for changes?

•Where did the story come from that the attack grew from a protest against an anti-Islam video? The video was mentioned once in 100 pages of e-mails, but it was a central theme of Obama's and Clinton's description of the event.

"It's widely accepted as fact now that what the White House was spewing was demonstrably false," says Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "I think there was clarity in the beginning, but it became obscured by fiction over the course of time."

President Obama acknowledged during a news conference Thursday that "there's been intense discussion in Congress lately about the attacks in Benghazi." He said he is intent on doing everything in the government's power to prevent a similar tragedy, and he is increasing security and military presence at high risk diplomatic posts. Congress should "come together" to provide needed funding, he said.

The e-mails from Sept. 14-15 show that the State Department was "the key driving force for the revisions," says Thomas Joscelyn, an analyst with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy in Washington.

There is absolutely no proof of any criminality in those e-mails...it shows a cautious CIA who didn't want to name certain organized terrorist groups until a thorough investigation had been done. It was mostly a bunch of burearocrats doing their usual thing...Petraeus' deputy, Mike Morell was worried that naming the terror groups would unnecessarily influence the FBI investigation. The intelligence community also wanted to protect classified information already pointing to possible culprits...
