Citing armed protesters, BLM returns seized cattle to Nevada rancher

http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-blm-cattle-nevada-rancher-20140412,0,2071818

After spending a week whisking away nearly 400 cattle they said were illegally grazing on federal land in the Nevada desert, officials facing a battalion of protesters with horses and guns decided to free those cattle in a stunning reversal Saturday afternoon.

A line of cattle calmly filtered out of a federal holding area at about 3 p.m. as protesters and law enforcement watched from alongside Interstate 15 near the Nevada-Arizona state line.

"Due to escalating tensions, the cattle have been released from the enclosures in order to avoid violence and help restore order," the U.S. Bureau of Land Management said in a short statement.

Federal officials have failed for 21 years to compel rancher Cliven Bundy to pay the fee required to let privately owned cattle use public land.

The government has said the cattle roundup was a “last resort” to enforce court orders ruling that Bundy had failed to pay more than $1 million in fees since 1993. Forcing him either to pay or to give up his cattle is a matter of fairness to the 16,000 ranchers who do follow the rules, U.S. officials said.

Two weeks ago, the BLM and the National Park Service began mobilizing helicopters, trucks, cowboys and rangers to seize Bundy’s 900 cattle.

The agencies moved nearly 400 to the holding area before suddenly announcing Saturday morning that the operation would end because of "grave concerns" about worker safety.

Bundy received nationwide support from people frustrated by what they described as government overreach, and at least several dozen of them brought weapons with them to Bundy's ranch 80 miles east of Las Vegas this week. Protesters scuffled with law enforcement at least a couple of times during the seizures. On Saturday, a peaceful standoff between law enforcement and protesters in the sweltering heat temporarily closed off a stretch of I-15 in nearby Bunkerville.

Bundy, a 68-year-old father of 14, has argued in court that his Mormon ancestors began working the land in the 1880s, long before the BLM was formed, giving him rights that predate federal involvement. He says he only owes about $300,000.

"We're tired of being abused," Bundy told supporters Saturday during a rally broadcast online.

Meanwhile, lawmakers called for the protesters to leave the area so that the BLM could safely remove its equipment. But the protesters refused to leave until the seized cattle were released in the 150 square miles of scrub desert in the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area.

Environmentalists argue that the cattle take food from protected desert tortoises, smash rare plants and slow down the regrowth of fire-damaged vegetation. Their numbers should be kept in check, the land advocates say.

The cost of what had been expected to be a monthlong operation hasn't been disclosed. Critics have said the cash-strapped agency should be selling land to local residents instead of wasting money on what they see as a frivolous move. In Nevada, the BLM manages 87% of the state's land.

BLM Director Neil Kornze secured his position after U.S. Senate confirmation on Tuesday, four days into the cattle roundup. From 2003 to 2011, Kornze was an aide to Sen. Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat and Senate majority leader.

The case is the latest flourish of the civil disobedience popularized during the 1970s Sagebrush Rebellion, a movement that sought greater local control in 12 Western states where the federal government administers 60% of the land.

Bundy couldn't be reached for comment.

I thought we had another discussion about it too? Anyway, it certainly is worth discussing. The one thing I heard that seems to be a huge secret is that HARRY REID'S son wants that land for solar development. All being kept very quiet, isn't it?

Nothing.

Ruling class is ruling.

As government gains more power and more control, look for even more heavy handed, draconian and authoritarian measures.

Maybe with help from American Indians!

Long before Cliven Bundy faced down federal agents in his dispute with the Bureau of Land Management over grazing rights, fellow Nevada rancher Raymond Yowell, an 84-year-old former Shoshone chief, watched as the BLM seized his herd.

Adding to that, since 2008 they've taken his money as well -- in the form of a piece of his Social Security checks.

Yowell's 132 head of cattle had grazed for decades on the South Fork Western Shoshone Indian Reservation in northeastern Nevada until 2002, when the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) -- the same agency at odds with Bundy -- seized them.

The federal agency sold the cattle at auction and used the proceeds to pay off the portion of back grazing fees it claimed Yowell owed. Once the cattle was sold, the agency sent Yowell a bill for the outstanding balance, some $180,000.

They've been garnishing his monthly Social Security checks since 2008 to satisfy the debt Yowell says he does not owe.

"There’s a definite pattern in the West, beginning in the 1990s, maybe in the late '80s, of what I feel are illegal cattle seizures," Yowell said. "[Bundy's case] is the latest example of that pattern.”

Not a word on the Bundy Ranch stand off around here? Empty A Few More Words...

Post  News Hawk Fri Apr 25, 2014 7:27 pm

D’Andre Berghardt was a young black man walking alone down a highway on his way to a new life. He was killed on Valentines Day of this year, not too far from where the Bundy ranch is. Mr. Derghardt’s senseless murder was filmed.

He was shot by BLM officers who are funded by the very ‘fees’ Mr. Bundy stopped paying, and our tax dollars.

Its a tragic but perfect example of why Mr. Bundy stopped paying BLM fees – he realized the branch of government set up to help him and collect those fees was ultimately using the money (fees) against him, his neighbors and the American people. He stood up.
Here is that film:

Does anyone really believe our government, the BLM cares about cows, turtles, or least of all – our constitutional rights ?

Does anyone really think Mr. Bundy would be alive today if he met the BLM alone on a highway ?

Except we have ALL KINDS of regulations without representation. They need to get rid of all the people that sit around and think up new rules and regulations. It only hurts the country.

I also think Mr Bundy believes that the land belongs to the state not to the fed gov and he should be paying land fees to them.

Not a word on the Bundy Ranch stand off around here? Empty For Those NOT Following the Bundy Ranch Story, Here is a Synopsis:

Post  News Hawk Mon Apr 28, 2014 6:29 pm

The recent armed standoff between the Bureau of Land Management and a crowd of supporters of Nevada rancher Clive Bundy was disturbing on many levels.  Forget for a moment whether or not Bundy was right or wrong in his dispute with the Bureau of Land Management. Then just concentrate on the methods used by Team Obama’s BLM to enforce their will on Bundy.

They deployed over 100 armed agents, they deployed a helicopter, and they deployed trucks and earthmoving equipment. All to enforce a landlord tenant dispute. The operation had to cost you and I many tens of thousands of dollars. Bundy had not been paying his land use fees. BLM attempted to kill or to capture the cattle that he had been grazing on federal lands for decades. In their attempts cattle were killed.

Bundy instantly  became a folk hero and his cause was championed by hundreds if not thousands of persons, many armed. The threat of a major firefight between BLM and the Bundy supporter was very real. Fortunately BLM withdrew. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid soiled himself when he labeled the Bundy supporters as being “domestic terrorists”

The BLM is run by Neil Kornze. He is young, and during his confirmation hearing his experience was questioned. But, Kornze had been one of Harry Reid’s staffers, and given the Democrat majority in the Senate, he was approved.

Bundy is no saint, no role model. Apparently he is a bigot and a scofflaw.

But the idea of the Feds mounting a paramilitary division sized assault in such a circumstance is deeply troubling. It brings to mind the extraordinary amount of firepower civilian federal agencies are amassing.

A little more than a year ago, the Social Security Administration put in a request for 174,000 rounds of “.357 SIG 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow-point” bullets. Why on earth does the Social Security admin need guns and ammo, they have no arrest powers whatsoever.

Before that, it was the Department of Agriculture that requested 320,000 rounds of small arms ammo. Perhaps the
D o A is girding its loins for a  firefight showdown with the evil corn weevils.

The FBI bought 100 million hollow-point rounds. There are about 13,412 special agents with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. That means that they bought about 7,500 rounds per agent. I believe that Agents qualify 3 times a year and shoot 60 rounds each time.  You do the math.

In the war in Iraq, our military forces expended approximately 70 million rounds per year. In March DHS ordered 750 million rounds of hollow point ammunition. It then turned around and ordered an additional 750 million rounds of miscellaneous rounds including some that are capable of penetrating walls. Why so much, and why armor piercing ammo?

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also requested 46,000 rounds.
Why, do they intended to enter into armed conflict with tornados?

We have local police, backed up by each state’s National Guard, backed up by the Department of Defense. Why does the alphabet soup of federal regulatory agencies have a need to be armed? Under what rationale do they justify arming themselves. Why do the SSA, NOAA and other government agencies need to create their own armed civilian security forces?

It is becoming crystal clear that Team Obama is succeeding his goal to be a “transformational” president. The evidence strongly suggests that he and his are morphing many branches of our government, they are mutating regulatory agencies into paramilitary assets. Our government is increasing its power each and every day. The taste of power is sweet, and to some it is irresistible.

All of this sounds warning klaxons for people who respect the Second Amendment. Please think about the eternal and ever growing liberal quest for their Golden Grail of abrogating the rights enumerated in the Second Amendment.

The word has gotten around with interesting twists. It turns out that the Red Chinese are buying up US land:

"ENN Energy Group wants to build a 5 billion dollar solar farm in the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone, on which Bundy’s farm is located. Who are the investors for ENN? The Chinese, using the EB-5 program. Who represents ENN in its negotiations? Rory Reid, Harry’s son. This little band has already run 52 other ranchers in the area. Bundy is the last one left.

So was the BLM there in force for turtles or as the private enforcement machine of a corrupt Senator seeking to fill his pockets with cash? Senator Reid is the one who said, “This isn’t over yet.” He’s apparently in a position to know."

The Bundy's have a very thoughtful family blog. There is quite a bit of excellent info and commentary across the new media. Their blog is is a great place to start circumnavigating the legacy media's black out on what is one of the greatest acts of lawful principled defiance against the corruption and tyranny of the federal government in modern times.

http://bundyranch.blogspot.com/

It is important to keep in mind what transpired in Bunkerville Nevada, is part of something much larger. It's scope encompasses the entire idea of the sovereign person verses the tyrants trying to control every facet of the sphere of our lives. They have absolutely no business doing so. Period. Not legally or morally or otherwise. They only have a police state where threat of violence and a mirage of monopoly of force create an atmosphere where their "power" appears omnipotent and where it is futile to resist.

The Bundy's and those who stood up to the fed and it's blaant system of armed thuggery proved the veracity and legitimacy of that.

It is critical for the crooks and psychopaths in power to keep the public unaware defiance and rebellion exists. It is the only thing on God's green Earth they fear, because defiance, rebellion and withdrawal of consent is a total and complete existential threat to them. They quite simply have no legitimacy whatsoever. They can not afford to be revealed as the truly criminal and illegitimate regime of traitors of our republic. Their reign of power hinges upon their ability to project a monopoly of force with a fig leaf of legitimacy. Neither of which is lawfully nor morally theirs to wield.

And the second just enough people, a plurality, figure this out the son of a bitches are toast.

The characteristic feature of a police state is that those who are entrusted with the power to enforce the law are not themselves bound by it.

Do you guys see the paradigm on the threshold here?

If the laws are for the little people, and those making them up to suit their power and greed are not bound by them, then there is no law. If there is no rule of law, only rule of men, then there is no moral imperative for the people to obey or submit to illegitimate power of those running Our government who posses no legitimate mandate of the people.

I think the great TL Davis put it rather succinctly when he said, "It is not ours to restore the power of the Constitution. It is ours to show them the wrath of America without the protections the Constitution offers them.

Let them restore it to find refuge from us."
http://www.washingtonreb.com/2012/02/05/the-truth-of-us/

Rightfully so.

Ya, fiat rule. Rule by unaccountable bureaucrats, immune to prosecution, free to decree what ever regulatory diktat that pleases them or their ruling class elite superiors, which is rule over men via proxy, Lois Lerner and the IRS is but one hideous example.
The old soviet Russians had a class of unaccountable bureaucrats called the Nomenklaturer. They had almost unlimited power within the mandate of the ruling elites ideology and system of corruption over an unarmed subservient Russian population. A secret police state enforced their decrees and social engineering with brutal and deadly monopoly of violence. Even thought was carefully and violently proscribed.

Hey, kind of sounds like the fundamental transformation underway of Amerika?

But our very own class of Mandarin's are having a bit of a rough time creating the police state they believe we people so richly deserve for our own "protection".
A lot of people bear arms in support of their conviction of primal right to self determination and God forbid, defend themselves, family and property from tyranny. They bitterly cling to such out dated ideas like faith, and traditions, of family and values based on principles of freedom and Liberty. You know, old dead white guy racist ideals of constitutional government and rule of law. And to add insult to injury for our ruling class superiors millions refuse to keep their mouths shut about the truth and destructive consequences of our "intellectual" chattering class betters meddling in every aspect of our affairs down to the air we breath, the food we eat and how we take a crap.

How dare any of us lowly serfs defy them!
And the idea many plan to resist their tyranny under the apostasy of just cause, is grounds for classifying an entire component of we the people as domestic terrorists.

Well golly!
Whats to be afraid of here?
Nothing but a collection of greedy spoiled corrupt sociopaths and psychopaths bent on the destruction of a constitutional republic from the top down and inside out calling themselves a legitimate government.

They need us more than we need them to put it mildly.
What is going to happen when a plurality figure out they have had just about enough of this ruling class bullshit and withdraw consent?
Start to round people up in the dark of the night and begin liquidating them?
All forms of tyranny resort to mass detainment and murder to retain power.
All. There are no exceptions in all of human history.
Governments are what and who commit genocide in the name of legitimacy.

Seems like some freemen have taken to shaking their rifles in the tyrants faces of late.
It makes them very afraid.
