A Loon Cries Out...
Early yesterday morning, I'm having coffee at a neighbor's, and heard a Loon call it's short warning: Ah-OOOOOH!
That's the call that had me looking up into the sky. I searched for a minute and was about to give up—when I saw a large and dark shape soaring over Tuftonboro Neck. It was the Bald Eagle about which the Loon was warning his compatriots. A second Loon spotted him at the same time, and sent out the same warning from a mile away. I snapped a photo at "full zoom", then ran a video.
The Bald Eagle dropped sharply and swooped low over the water, picking up its usual easy meal of a floating fish, then disappeared from our view into the shoreline's thick canopy of trees—probably feasting with an eagle's eye on the surface for more "treats".

We see the eagles all the time. There is an older one and a juvenile.

The "older one" would have the white tail and head of the adult Bald Eagle. I've seen your "juvenile", but unless they're seen interacting together, it appears (to me) to be a Golden Eagle.WHL wrote:We see the eagles all the time. There is an older one and a juvenile.
(A heavier bird than the Bald Eagle, with similar coloration to the juvenile).

That could be. That's very interesting.

I should have mentioned that the usual (non-warning) call is Ah-OOOOO-ooooo.
Earlier this morning, I heard a Loon make that usual Ah-OOOOO-ooooo "wail" call. Immediately afterwards, I heard an "echo".
After a few of those calls, the "echo" started first.

THey were probably hunting for each other.
But I agree with you, when the eagles come around, if the loons are around, they sound a warning as do all the other birds around. But I have seen crows and other smaller birds chase them (maybe they are close to their nests. If the birds get very noisy, I know something, an eagle or a fox or some animal is around.
