Should we bomb Syria
Re: Should we bomb Syria?
All excellent points, outer, except I think on this one all the Leftists are not with him. For once.
And yes, of course he will pout if Congress doesn't go along with him.

Obama has received praise from Mitch McConnell, Kelly Ayotte, John Boehner, Rand Paul, John McCain and Lindsay Graham for going to Congress on this.

They praised him because for ONCE he did what he should and is asking Congress. Of course that doesn't mean his motives are good or honest. If his motives were good and he wasn't just covering his a , I would think he would deserve praise too.

Let’s be clear about this.News Buzzard wrote:Outerlimits wrote:Get ready for President Rand Paul and the Dems can thank Obama.

Some Republicans in Congress are praising Obama for including them in the decision. They are not praising his plan to attack a sovereign nation nor are they praising him for drawing a redline in the sand.
Since only 6% of the public agrees we should get involved, this is not a winning hand for the Administration or the country.
Rand Paul would not get us involved in this. Right there 94% agree with Paul…including YOU.
On a side note…
I saw McCain on the news this morning. He saw the video of a rebel shooting down a military plane with a RPG. When the plane exploded into the city below the rebel yelled: Allahu Akbar. McCain said he didn’t have a problem with that. These are the rebels we are supposed to help?

I think the number is a lot more than 6% to get involved, and if the Congress approves Obama's plan, I'm good with it. Regardless of what Obama says or doesn't, the use of chemical weapons is not accepted throughout the international community.

Re: Should we bomb Syria?
Anybody watch the hearings? Flake made some good points. Kerry got a little frustrated with Boxer. They all know today was for show and the decision might come tomorrow in a closed session.
Kerry tried to be noncommittal about troops on the ground but backtracked later.
Flake asked the obvious, Was going to congress just a political move?
Rubio was forceful. I thought he asked some tough questions. He asked, what are the chances of success.
Somebody asked, What happens to Israel if it blows up. What if Iran and Russia get involved?
Isolationism mentioned many times by Kerry.
Constitutional theater Rand Paul Wants congressional vote meaningful and valid.
Kerry Israel to be less safe if no action ... Israel quite confident in their ability to deal with hezbola(sp?)
Paul ... You announce that your goal is not winning? ...

How the heck can this nation afford another war? Each Tomahawk costs 1.5 million dollars. I wonder how much it has cost already? We are a day late and a dollar short.

I think the Unitary Executive will ignore Congress and move ahead as planned.Outerlimits wrote:If Congress follows the will of the people and denies action; will he go it alone or will he pout and call Republicans obstructionists again?
Congressional approval certainly was no obstacle to bombing Pakistan, Yemen or Libya.
That's assuming Congress does in fact vote no, which is in no way a sure thing.
I don't like the sound of the first, enough of war already.Either way Obama comes off as weak or he will be solely responsible for getting us into another war. Get ready for President Rand Paul and the Dems can thank Obama.
But I sure do like the sound of the second sentence.

At least both sides seem to be working together a little. Just think of what the right wing would have done if Obama attacked Syria. They would have had a field day.
Obama did the right thing by putting the responsibility on Congress. He told them what he wanted to do and now they can either approve it or come up with a plan of their own.

I think if Obama doesn't get the vote he wants in Congress he will go ahead and strike anyway. After all he thinks he is !!

What do want to happen? If Congress OK's Obama's plan, will that make you happy? I think the only thing you want out of this is whatever will make Obama look bad and not what's good for the country as a whole.WHL wrote:I sure like the sound of the second sentence too!!!!!!

That's been since day 1. Then she'll be whining about Hillary for 8 years. It's a shame that Obama got very little help with the recession! The 112th Congress has done virtually nothing!Donzel wrote:I think the only thing you want out of this is whatever will make Obama look bad and not what's good for the country as a whole.

As usual NB, you don't know what you are talking about. You liberals just look for someone else to blame for everything when you can't fix it yourself.
Back to the war. I think Congress probably will pass it and we will go to war. AGAIN. I just hope I am wrong.

Now you want the right to bail him out. Who will get the credit for that?

“I want to draw your attention to one absolutely fundamental fact,” he said. “In accordance with applicable international law, the authorization of the use of force against a sovereign state can only be given by the Security Council of the United Nations. Any other reasons, or methods, to justify the use of force against an independent and sovereign state are unacceptable and cannot be qualified as anything other than aggression.”

“First of all, I didn't set a red line. The world set a red line,” Obama said during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in Stockholm. “My credibility's not on the line. The international community's credibility is on the line, and America and Congress's credibility is on the line."
Is that passing the buck?

Re: Should we bomb Syria?
REP. NANCY PELOSI: I'll tell you this story and then I really do have to go. My five-year-old grandson, as I was leaving San Francisco yesterday, he said to me, Mimi, my name, Mimi, war with Syria, are you yes war with Syria, no, war with Syria. And he's five years old. We're not talking about war; we're talking about action. Yes war with Syria, no with war in Syria. I said, 'Well, what do you think?' He said, 'I think no war.' I said, 'Well, I generally agree with that but you know, they have killed hundreds of children, they've killed hundreds of children there. ' And he said, five years old, 'Were these children in the United States?' And I said, 'No, but they're children wherever they are.'
