Putin sends message to America: You are not exceptional

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s barely subtle message to America — that we are hardly exceptional — as relayed in an op-ed on The New York Times‘ website has sparked some serious fire, including a reaction from a senator who said the piece nearly made him vomit.

Mr. Putin wrote the Wednesday op-ed in response to President Obama’s address to the nation on Syria, during which he said America’s motivation to act on behalf of ailing nations is “what makes us exceptional.”

Mr. Putin’s reply: “It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.”

President Obama ignored reporters’ questions Thursday about a newspaper column written by Russian President Vladimir Putin that criticized Mr. Obama for promoting American “exceptionalism.”

Mr. Obama gave an opening statement to reporters at the start of a Cabinet meeting. When reporters’ called out questions to him about Mr. Putin’s op-ed, the president simply replied, “Thank you very much, everybody.”

Journalists were then ushered from the meeting.

As he seeks to broker a deal with the U.S. over Syria’s chemical weapons, Mr. Putin penned an article in Thursday’s New York Times rejecting Mr. Obama’s characterization of the United States in his nationally televised address Tuesday night as an “exceptional nation.”

“It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation,” Mr. Putin said.

At the Capitol, House Speaker John A. Boehner was less reluctant to characterize his reaction: “Insulted.”

Mr. Boehner declined to say more, saying under the U.S. system the president handles foreign affairs, but he said he remains skeptical of Mr. Putin’s efforts to strike a compromise.

But it really makes me sad to think how great this country once was. I just hope it is not too late to turn it around.

Obama's NSA and his media may have as much dirt on Putin as they do on shaky Rinos, but Putin acts like he could care less.

That’s how a real man behaves.
