U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan told a group of state schools superintendents Friday that he found it “fascinating” that some of the opposition to the Common Core State Standards has come from “white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were, and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were.”

Duncan is another Chicago thug promoting the Progressive way.  He was an abject failure as chief of the Chicago school system; therefore a perfect choice for Obama.

Common Core is a perfect example of what is wrong with big government. Have just a little more corruption and manipulation in the pursuit of control. America has had just about enough of these arrogant, ignorant, imbeciles.

The purpose of Common Core is to get our kids up to speed in a global environment. The major pitfall of Common Core is the testing. It's horrible!

The only thing I know is that Common Core is a revised curriculum that is supposed to give our kids a competitive edge with their studies. It is intended to be consistent on a national level, so that kids can move from one area of the country to another and stay up to speed. The testing in New York has been a very difficult experience for the kids, parents and educators, and has had dismal results. I think they have to get away from strictly teaching to the tests and be a little more thorough with their instruction.

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

Apparently each state picks it's own standards. I just wondered how they arrive at them etc.

WASHINGTON D.C. —Three New Hampshire schools were recognized with National Blue Ribbon awards in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

Hollis Primary School and Newfields Elementary School were chosen as exemplary high performing schools. Linwood Public Elementary school was named an exemplary improving school.

"This award is a combination of all the hard work that our teachers put in, our support staff, our parents, the community to fund education and take it seriously for each and every child," said Hollis Primary School principal Elizabeth Allen.

A total of 286 schools across the country were recognized for either their academic achievement or improvement.

Maybe Common Core will help our schools be in this category.
