Wolfeboro Inn to build an outdoor skating rink. This is from the GSN. I think that is great news. They will allow the public to use it for free.
School district wants 60,000 put away for future funding of the football field at Kingswood. This is one of my pet peeves. I think $700,000. or more for a high school football field is ridiculous. Why couldn't we just have grass. It seems to me this comes at a time when football is going away from artificial fields too.

Re: News
What a neat idea. I hope it works well for the Wolfeboro inn.
The NFL still has ~20 professional football fields that are natural grass. I believe the rest of the stadiums under a roof must use artificial turf. Whether the gridiron is natural or artificial it has to look good for TV. That is why so much money is spent by teams to present their stadium and field in the most professional way possible. Without TV the teams wouldn't have the resources to afford this. It seems to me the team's investment in their fields is necessary and warranted. I'm not sure how installing a professional quality (and priced) football field was justified for a small school with limited resources.

At the end of the article it says: "The board is proposing again to fund the account with monies from the unreserved fund balance".WHL wrote:Wolfeboro Inn to build an outdoor skating rink. This is from the GSN. I think that is great news. They will allow the public to use it for free.

My Question: What is the unreserved fund balance?
This is what the article says:
The second warrant article asks voters to approve setting aside $60,000 in the capital reserve fund established last year for the eventual replacement of the artificial turf athletic field. With a life expectancy of approximately 12 years and a replacement cost of about $700-750,000 the board would like to avoid hitting taxpayers with a huge onetime expense by saving up little by little each year until replacement of the artificial turf field is necessary. The board is proposing again to fund the account with monies from the unreserved fund balance.

Maybe we should plan for replacing it with a natural grass field.

This is not just a football field, it is an "athletic field". All kinds of sports are played on this field. I like to watch the soccer games.

You got a good point. Can you imagine playing any sports on grass, in this age?!

They want us to pay 60,000 each year so that they don't hit us with the 700,000 all at once after twelve year. We paid it last year. That's what they mean. The 60000 x 12 years is 7,2 to rebuild the field. Are you SURE other sports are played on this field?????

I've seen fields like this in Western Pennsylvania. They have stands that can sit thousands per side. All those seats are filled when their teams are playing.

Go to SPORTS- SECTION B, PAGE 1 of todays GSN and you will see the girls playing field hockey on the athletic field (to you it's the football field).WHL wrote:They want us to pay 60,000 each year so that they don't hit us with the 700,000 all at once after twelve year. You don't have to leave Wolfeboro to see an artificial turf ball field.fshnski wrote:I've seen fields like this in Western Pennsylvania. They have stands that can sit thousands per side. All those seats are filled when their teams are playing.
Brewster Academy has one. I was surprised that—even when new—chunks of the stuff can be pulled out. Those chunks look like weeds!

Re: News
Why does a small high school need a professional football field?
Oopsie … I meant to say professional athletic field.

That is my point, fsh. I don't think we need it. I don't think it is necessary to education.
