My trip to Miami's Eye Clinic...
First, let me say that the 40-year-old 'Metro-Rail" system is fast and super! A north-or-south train every two minutes!
Second, the Bascom-Palmer Institute IS the best eye institute in the world.
Although mostly pleasant, I never got the feeling of "personal" care—I felt like a chicken being prepared at a Tyson's Chicken slaughterhouse.
On 'Metro-Rail", I had to share a car with a full-bearded Muslim, sitting in the back—appearing to pray—wearing his "beanie").
Other than that, the ride was not only quick, but scenic and cool. If I'd been a tourist, I could've seen most of the eastern half of the city for just $4.50 (Ticket "good" for 60 days).
Where I got dropped off—across the street where I'd worked for ten years—I couldn't recognize just where I was. (Surrounded by a concrete jungle).
The trip to the Civic Center in Miami was quick, but gave me shell-shock. If I could speak three languages, it wouldn't be enough. Of the 50 people in the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute waiting room, a citizen of New Hampshire would have been able to single me out!
As it was, the Metro-Rail train ride was dizzying as to speed and my riding companions—like New York City—mostly Asians everywhere.
On the return trip, three "yoots" got up and moved to the trailing car, while the cars were bobbing and jerking all over the place. A student, and probably "seasoned-rider" gave them an iconic look as the three wobbled between the dividing two doors!
