Mosul Seized: Jihadis Loot $429m from City's Central Bank to Make Isis World's Richest Terror Force

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (Isis) has become the richest terror group ever after looting 500 billion Iraqi dinars - the equivalent of $429 Million  - from Mosul's central bank, according to the regional governor.

Nineveh governor Atheel al-Nujaifi confirmed Kurdish televison reports that Isis militants had stolen millions from numerous banks across Mosul. A large quantity of gold bullion is also believed to have been stolen.

Following the siege of the country's second city, the bounty collected by the group has left it richer than al-Qaeda itself and as wealthy as small nations such as Tonga, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands and the Falkland Islands.

They also seized considerable amounts of US-supplied military hardware. Photos have already emerged of Isis parading captured Humvees in neighboring Syria where they are also waging war against President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The US State Department has released a statement saying that it is "deeply concerned" by the Islamist militants' siege of Mosul.

Don't be concerned—J. F. Kerry is on the job!

Today, Iraq has asked for a U.S. airstrike to save their young democracy from an early grave.

What will Obama do in response?

Bad Iraqi News for Us... Empty He took a win and threw it away

Yes, ObamaCare is a fiscal disaster. Yes, the stimulus was a flop and doubling the national debt is awful. And yes, having the IRS punish citizens for their political beliefs is a new level of abuse unseen under any previous president.

But forget all that. History will declare President Obama’s biggest failure his abandonment of Iraq. It is the biggest, dumbest and most costly foreign policy mistake since World War II. Nothing else is even close.

There are no defenders of President Obama’s idiotic abandonment of an American ally/fledging democracy in the heart of the Middle East. There are only knee-jerk haters of George W. Bush.

President Obama loves to talk about what he “inherited” from President Bush (it’s his second-favorite “I” word, the first, obviously, being “I”), but he rarely uses the word in Iraq. Because what Obama inherited there was a military victory, a young democracy, a nation with a multi-party and multi-factional government and the potential to grow economically into a powerful regional ally of the US.

What President Obama has given the world is another center of chaos to go along with Syria, Pakistan, North Africa, Ukraine, etc. etc. He took a win and threw it away. Al Qaeda and Iran couldn’t be happier.

Yeah, right. Bush and his fellow stooges were incompetent amateurs in domestic and world affairs, and the only thing the right wingers can do now is try to re-write history and point the finger at Obama, with the very deep pockets of the Koch brothers and the very irresponsible FOX News.

Bad Iraqi News for Us... Empty WMD taken over by ISIS...!

Post  News Hawk Wed Jun 25, 2014 4:31 pm

U.S. officials believe the Sunni militants can't create a functional chemical weapon from the material. The weapons stockpiled at the Al Muthanna complex are old, contaminated and hard to move.”

Words NB could have written.

Rolling Eyes

Continuing:

That’s the quote from Jen Psaki at the State Department regarding what ISIS just seized late last week in Iraq. They’re not talking about weapons Obama gave them or weapons left by U.S. forces either during the war in Iraq or left there as Obama pulled our forces OUT of Iraq.

What they’re talking about is a facility…once seized and under the control OF U.S. forces before the Obama mandated and foretold to the enemy withdrawal FROM Iraq.

Muthanna was in fact, a carefully held secret so as not to tip off our enemies. Bush kept it quiet and did so at the peril of his own legacy. Bush, not being the narcissist Obama is never felt the need to crow over such things. Not when it was first discovered by our troops, not after nor even since he left office even though it would have benefited him personally.

Obama knew it was there and pulled out all our troops leaving it unguarded and ripe for the picking by any Islamic terror group that happened along and one did. ISIS came along on their rampage and discovered exactly what Obama and liberals  didn’t want anybody to know about…Muthanna and its stockpiles of WMD and wouldn’t you just know it?

Terrorists are terrible at WMD-keeping such a discovery quiet and they went and started posting it to their anti-social media pages.

So what’s the real story…Was al Muthanna bombed into near oblivion in 1991?

Yes…yes it was.

Were its contents known to the U.N. after that?

Yep.

Did the U.N. destroy equipment and remaining WMD at al Muthanna?

It appears they did. Yes.

And wasn’t most of the complex then torn down by the Iraqis themselves?

Uh huh…most of it was.

So….If all that is correct…how can there be WMD there today?

The answer to that is simple. As U.S. forces took Iraq in 2003, any WMD they discovered was taken TO al-Muthanna and stored in bunkers then sealed. Too dangerous to dispose of in a war zone and with insurgents lurking about while Bush remained in office and more dangerous with each passing year after Obama unfurled his prayer rug in the oval office.

It was contained in sealed bunkers and guarded. Al Muthanna is out in the middle of nowhere and any insurgents coming could have been seen, contacted and dispatched of before ever getting close to the place or finding out what was being stored there.

That ended in 2011 with Obama’s complete withdrawal of troops and Obama’s failure to leave in place residual forces in Iraq. As the last of our troops left Iraq, al Muthanna and its deadly contents have been waiting for someone to claim them.

Bad Iraqi News for Us... Empty This is the Weakest President in Foreign Policy since Carter!

News Buzzard wrote:Read my lips: We're not going back into Iraq !

Three hundred "Advisors" say you're wrong.

ISIS, that al Qaida clone, will definitely overturn the Middle East, and threats world security. They've captured the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, among many other border cities, and are only 50 miles from Baghdad itself.

President Obama met with his national security team at the White House today to discuss the state of affairs in Iraq. Afterwards, during his afternoon press conference, he announced a number of steps his administration will be taking to stabilize the country and avert a civil war.

“First, we are working to secure our embassy,” he announced. To that end, he said, he has evacuated some diplomatic staffers, and is sending in additional security personnel to protect those who remain.

Second, he continued, he will “increase Iraqi security forces in Baghdad and northern Iraq.” This will include deploying up to 300 military advisors, all of whom will counsel and support the Iraqis going forward.

He did stress, however, that U.S. “military forces will not be returning to combat in Iraq.”

But the United States will not stay idle.

“In recent days we’ve positioned military assets in the region, [added] intelligence resources about potential targets, and going forward, we will be prepared to take action if and when the situation on the ground [merits it].” This apparently leaves the door open to military strikes at some future date.

He also said that Secretary of State John Kerry will head to the Middle East this weekend to help broker a “diplomatic solution."

“Above all, Iraqi leaders must arise above their differences and come up with a political plan for Iraq’s future,” he continued. “Recent days have reminded us of the deep scars left by America’s war in Iraq. What’s clear from the last decade is for the United States to ask hard questions before taking military action abroad.”

“The most important question we must be asking,” he continued, “is what is in the national security interests of the United States of America?” His made it clear that the situation Iraq must be resolved through political and diplomatic channels.

Finally, the president didn’t explicitly assert that Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki should step down, but did say that only an inclusive central government in Baghdad can heal the country’s deep-seated divisions and bring stability to the region.

UPDATE: Following President Obama's press conference today Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) released the following statement:

“The plan that the President announced today in response to the rapid terrorist expansion in Iraq underestimates the seriousness of the threat. The steps he announced are needed, but fall short of what is required to stop this al-Qaeda offshoot from gaining more power, which must include drone strikes.

“Yes, Iraqis must solve their differences on their own, but this crisis comes as the Administration has disengaged from Iraq and willfully ignored well-known threats, including the growing strength of the al-Qaeda offshoot there and in Syria over the past two years. The Iraqis have been requesting U.S. drone strikes against terrorist camps for nearly a year, and this Administration has repeatedly said ‘no,’ even as they have captured town after town.

This response is allowing Iran to fill the void and expand its destructive regional influence, enflaming sectarian conflict, destabilizing the Middle East, and creating an environment in which the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and other al-Qaeda offshoots will thrive. Our closest allies and our critical national security interests in the region are in jeopardy.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the terrorist leading this charge, directly threatened New York in 2009, and President Obama should take that seriously.”

President Barack Obama says he's sending about 200 more U.S. troops to Iraq to protect Americans and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

The announcement will bring to nearly 800 the total number of U.S. forces in and around Iraq to train local forces, secure the embassy and protect American interests."

The citing of Democraticunderground reminds me of this posting:

A person who lives in my apartment building recently made the following post at Democratic Underground:

Harry Reid exempts some of his Senate staff from Obamacare exchanges

http://news.yahoo.com/harry-reid-exempts-some-of-his-senate-staff-from-obamacare-exchanges-192925037.html

One of the biggest public supporters of the Affordable Care Act has reportedly decided that some of his staff should be exempted from the new law.

CNN reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is the only top congressional leader to exempt some of his staff from having to buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges.

The offices of Ron Wyden, Tim Johnson and Barbara Boxer, all Democrats, said they were exempting some of their staff.

The text of the post has been deleted, and the person who posted it has been banned. The reason for the deletion and ban states:

A Jury voted 6-1 to hide this post on Wed Jul 2, 2014, 01:15 AM. Reason: This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. When the original post in a discussion thread is hidden by Jury decision, the entire discussion thread is automatically locked so new replies cannot be posted.

So, according to Democratic Underground, pointing out that Harry Reid and three other Democratic Senators who supported the passage of Obamacare have exempted some of their own staff is “disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.”

“Hurtful”?

“Rude”?

“Insensitive”?

Apparently, the people who run the most popular Democratic message board on the entire internet insist on being hurt and offended by… the truth!

Who'd have thought that of "Democratic" people?

Maybe Joseph Stalin or his supporters running Wolfeboro's Stalinist forum?
