I fail to see any notion in that article that Atlantic City's problems are the fault of government! It appears that competition around the region is causing the decline. Isn't that a result of capitalism? People would rather go to Foxwoods than Atlantic City. I've been to Atlantic City several times and if there was any blame on the part of government it's for not living up to their promises. The folks in AC were promised lots of money toward a renewal of the entire city, but the renewal didn't extend past one block off the boardwalk. Now the politicians down there are suggesting legalized gambling in northern New Jersey, with the idea of kicking back some of the revenue toward Atlantic City. How on God's earth is that feasible? Politics in New Jersey and New York is a mess. Just look at the adventures of Chris Christie!

I've said many times that I'm up for a flat tax, but Republican Congressman Camp's proposal went down like a lead sinker. I've been saying for years that the Bush tax cuts were a disaster, and that's the reason why we now have so many people not paying any taxes. Our economy was in terrific shape during the Clinton tax rate years, whether you liked Clinton or not. There was money flowing all over the country for infrastructure projects during Clinton's term, and something close to 20 million jobs were created. Clinton left behind a balanced budget and a debt load of $5.5 trillion. Then along came Bush.....

I think you need to look at debt as a percentage of GDP- that is where the current occupant of the White House falls down. I would be fine with a flat income tax, but prefer a national sales tax instead. I paid an effective rate of 23.7% last year IIRC

I'm not going there with blaming Obama on our debt. Our national debt is a result of 2 wars, massive tax cuts and the worst recession since the Great Depression. There is no re-writing history in my book.

A Republican governor in Kansas is going to get his ass kicked in November by a Democrat because of his scorched earth austerity policies, and the national Republican ideology is nothing more than Kansas times 50. We might see up to 6 Republican governors losing this November, and rightfully so!

Of course it isn't Obama's fault! Who signed the tax cuts? Who started the wars? Who announced that our financial system was about to collapse? It wasn't Obama, he's just the scapegoat for the right wingers, but despite their all out lying assault on him he got reelected! That's pretty cool!

You are so right, it wasn't what Clinton wanted, it was what the Congress wanted, so Clinton HAD to go along or be a failure like Obama is. I have to give Clinton credit, he was smart enough to hire people to tell him to go along with Congress, not fight them. He started out very left, which the country didn't like and therefore went to a conservative Congress. When that happened, Clinton's liberal ideas had to go. That is why he was a successful president. He needs to thank Congress.

You forget the most important component, the Clinton Tax Rates, which Bush destroyed. There was plenty of money around to put back into the country back then, and the Republicans hadn't been hijacked by the group of extremists we now call the Tea Party. The good news is the Tea Party is fading. Governor Brownback may lose to a Democrat in the Red state of Kansas, and the US Chamber of Commerce is turning their backs on the Tea Party. I can think of 4 Republican governors, Le Page, Scott, Corbett and Brownback who have a good chance of losing, and there are several others who are on the ropes. The scorched earth policy of austerity is not what it's cracked up to be and people are finally starting to realize it! Also, I don't think the Republicans will take the Senate.

The city spent $200,000 to purchase the fuel storage facility a few years ago, the AP reported, and shelled out another $75,000 to convert the facility into a retail operation.

And you don't see the hypocrisy here. You constantly blame Obama for the fuel prices, and here you criticize a town that tackled the problem by opening their own service station to lower the prices. If you don't like that socialist approach, then don't blame Obama for the high gas prices. I don't think any town should be in the service station business either, but capitalism in the form of gas prices has nothing to do with Obama. If you want to blame anyone, take a look at Wall St and the speculating they do on the oil prices. (not to mention the oil companies)
