McConnell Flummoxed By Filibuster

The king of the filibuster, Mitch McConnell, doesn't like the fact that the Democrats used it against him, even though he used it over 400 times!

And now, barely two months into the Republican control of congress we're looking at our first partial government shutdown. Maybe the Republicans should try to repeal Obamacare another 50 times to make themselves feel better!

The 50 failures of Obamacare-repeals indicates Obama's intransigence to compromise. It doesn't hurt that history will record that Obama has no intention of "reaching across the aisle" with Republican efforts—in spite of Obama's speechifying.

The bogus number of 400 (500 if you listen to the Lair in the White House) comes from cloture motions. In this case, this statistic was based on Senate data showing “Senate Action on Cloture Motions.”

Reid often filed cloture on multiple bills or nominations at once to speed things along even if no one is slowing things down. Reid found it easier to file cloture than to allow votes on amendments. Most of Reid’s cloture motions were dropped, never actually voted on, or “vitiated” in the senatorial nomenclature.

A cloture motions is NOT a filibuster.

A cloture motion is filed to end debate, and cloture motions mostly failed on Republican votes, the same as a filibuster. You can fancy talk this all you want, but in the end it was McConnell's strategy to shut down the Senate for the whole time Obama was in office. So the Republicans shouldn't get their bloomers in a bunch when the Democrats say No to their legislative agenda, because the Republicans are the experts in No!

House Republicans are upset because Senate Republicans failed to invoke cloture on the DHS funding bill. In other words, the Democrats filibustered the bill. It was alright for the Republicans to prevent cloture and filibuster the Democrats over 400 times, but now they don't like it when they get it done to them once! They better get used to it!!
