Despite landing in trouble for soliciting more donations than they need and squirreling the rest away, the Red Cross continues to operate this way. The organization makes a total of about $3 billion annually, about half of which is from selling donated blood. Some of this surplus money ends up in disaster relief, but it seems that much does not. Last year alone, the Red Cross spent $111 million in fund raising, and their CEO Marsha Evans made just under $652,000. It seems the the main value they offer is the free help of their volunteer force.

AP:
MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities say looters have come from as far away as New York and Virginia to steal from victims of last month's tornado in Moore, Okla.
The Oklahoman reports ( http://bit.ly/18UQjGJ ) that police arrested one man from Elmhurst, N.Y., and two from Virginia on complaints of looting copper and other items from homes destroyed by the May 20 tornado.

Because they lack a positive roll model.

I can understand why you wouldn't like Tom Coburn. He was described today as
"...Tom Coburn, Congress’s top waste-watcher..."
Re: What a mess out mid-west.
Gotta' love him then! About time we got a waster watcher in the government!!!

Where'd That $50 Billion Go—Anyway?

Nevertheless, when Capobianco said, “I would just hate for anything to happen,” and spoke in specific terms about the man’s home address his wife’s name and where she and his children were at that very moment, the worker decided to act.
"Refusing to be intimidated, he called the police and took measures to protect his family – remember this is in America in the year 2012.
"When the union gangster realized his threats were not working he cried for help from the Democrats and their media. The Democrat County District Attorney obligingly opened an investigation into LGS after the local Democrat newspaper ran a phony story about the company unnecessarily removing trees to pad its bill.
"The media piously reported the owner of LGS donated over $16,000 to the successful campaign of the Republican County Executive without adding that LGS was approved for disaster clean-up work before the Republican won his seat..."

That Hurricane Sandy deal is so typical government. Pass a bill where not even half of the money is going to the victims, don't allow offers of free help if they aren't union, don't allow truckloads of free stuff from Canada because they don't have every single last paper needed to cross the border, a Red Cross who keeps on collecting money and says they are saving it for future disasters while the poor people don't have a roof over their heads, or food in their stomach, or water to drink, or heat. What a joke. Anything that is too big just doesn't work!!!!

Were they voting against this administration's lack of transparency?News Buzzard wrote:It is truly a tragedy, and despite the fact that Oklahoma Senators James Imhofe and Tom Coburn voted against the $50 billion Hurricane Sandy bill, I hope they get all the help they need from the federal government. (Reuters)
"A year after Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc across the eastern United States, only a fraction of the aid money earmarked for recovery has been used, in what some claim is a painfully slow and opaque process.
Only $5.2 billion of the pledged $47.9 billion had been tapped by cities and states by the end of August, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. And tracking those funds has been complicated, lawmakers said.
"Transparency is woefully lacking..."

No, they were voting against all the pork in the bill. I think they truly wanted to help the hurricane victims, but they didn't want to approve all the nonsense spending in the amendments.
