I can't remember what I did during Jr high recess.  I thought kids today were too busy with their cell phones to play sports.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky’s athletic sanctioning body has ordered high schools not to conduct postgame handshakes in all sports following more than two dozen physical confrontations the past three years.

Tuesday’s directive from Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett posted on its web site didn’t mention specific fights or conflicts but said several fall sports have had postgame incidents.

The organization says it’s “disappointing” to take such action but that it became necessary because of occurrences statewide and nationally.

KHSAA has also instructed game officials to immediately leave facilities after contests or risk being penalized.

NASHUA, N.H. —

A Nashua elementary school has banned kids from playing the game of tag during recess.

Charlotte Avenue Elementary School Principal Patricia Beaulieu called the game a "safety concern" when the school made the decision last week, the Telegraph reported.

"The force with which students 'tag' varies greatly, and this game, in particular, has been banned in many schools in the United States due primarily to concerns about injuries," Beaulieu posted in a letter on the school's website.

Parents have questioned the policy, saying the move was "ridiculous."

The Princeton School District's new rule is causing many parents - and even some doctors - to question whether soccer is really dangerous enough to warrant mandatory headgear to protect children from concussion.

However, school administrators are moving forward with a plan to purchase $70 soft helmets for every athlete grades six through 12 who plays soccer, field hockey or girls' lacrosse.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has destroyed an entire press run of a stamp series over safety concerns about the images on three out of the 15 stamps in the series.

The stamps, which were aimed at getting children to be more active, featured kids cannonballing into a pool, skateboarding without kneepads, and performing a headstand without a helmet.

Postalnews, a blog run by Brian Sheehan, a retired postal employee from Massachusetts, reports that USPS Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe asked First Lady Michelle Obama to take part in a first day ceremony for the stamps.

Upon reviewing the stamps, members of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, which was launched by Michelle Obama in 2010, raised their concerns.
